Preparing The Surface

1. Clean: First of all, clean the wood simply wipe down it with the cloth to remove any dust and dirt. Simply wipe down the wood piece with a slightly damp cloth or rag. Before moving towards the other step it is important to clean the surface.
2. Remove: If in any case, the wood has any hardware remove that, while removing the hardware it is important to remember their corresponding location.
3. Repair: Now the next step is to check for any scratches or gouges which should be repaired before painting the wood. In case of the gouges or scratches repair with the help of the wood filler.
4. Sanding: Once the wood filler is dried than sand the wood piece with the help of the 220 grit sandpaper used on the sanding block. After sanding is done then vacuum the sanding dust and wipe the area.

Applying The Paint

1. Choose: The first step is to use the chalk paint color, the chalk paint comes in a number of colors like white and black to baby blue and light green, etc.
2. Painter’s Tape: In case there are some areas on wooden piece or furniture that the user does not want to paint then cover the areas with the painter's tape.
3. Apply: Now start applying the chalk paint with the help of the brush, the chalk paint doesn't need the even strokes. Once the first coat is dried then go for the second coat.
4. Wax: The last important step is to wax finish to the painted area, in order to apply wax use a brush or soft cloth. Apply the wax in small section.
