How To Apply Clear Wax To Chalk Paint: Procedure To Apply

Procedure To Apply Clear Wax To Chalk Paint

When the user applies chalk paint on any of his wooden projects, he needs to add a protective finish to it. It has been recommended by the experts to use wax finish over the chalk paint for better protection. If the user chooses a clear wax protective finish, he will be able to retain the color of the project and will also provide protection to the project from various elements. The steps to apply clear wax finish over the chalk paint are as follows:
  1. Dip The Brush Into Wax:
The first step will be to dip the brush into the wax. It has been recommended by the experts not to saturate the brush with wax rather cover only the tip of the brush with wax. Dipping the brush tip into the wax allows the user to apply a thin coat of clear wax and oversaturating the brush may create issues in the project.
  2. Apply Wax:
The next will be to apply the wax over the chalk paint with a brush by using even strokes. The user can apply the wax over the chalk paint in any pattern. The focal point of the step should be to create a thin layer of the wax finish.
  3. Wipe The Wax:
After that, the user needs to wipe the wax over the chalk paint by using a lint-free cloth. The step will help the user to smooth out any wax build-up.
  4. Let The Wax Coat Dry:
The next step will be to let the wax coat dry completely that usually takes around two hours. The drying time depends upon the temperature and several other factors. The user needs to make sure that the wax coat is not tacky to touch before proceeding forward.
  5. Apply Second Coat Of Wax:
Once the first coat of wax dries completely, the user needs to apply a second coat of clear wax and let it dry overnight before putting the project back to use.
