Easy Parts, Steps & Items Needed To Install Carpet Tiles

The users can easily install the carpet tiles by going through below mentioned parts & steps but before that collect some items required for the process:

Items Required

  • Carpet Adhesive
  • Floor Roller & Utility Knife
  • Notched Trowel
  • Floor Primer, Vacuum, T-Square
  • Chalk Line, Pry Bar, Level And Measuring Tape

Part 1: Preparing The Subfloor

The users need to prepare their subfloor before installing the carpet tiles. The carpet tiles can get easily adhered to the plywood or the concrete subfloors. The users can also affix the carpet tiles over the wooden subfloor but in only one case when the wooden subfloor would be a one inch thick. However, the users are advised to detach the pre-existing flooring as the carpet tiles are not having the padding below and that is why the users will be able to know basic outlines as well as the texture from preceding flooring accordingly. Some of the carpet adhesives can damage the hard floors on a permanent basis. To prepare the floor the users need to follow some of the below-given steps:
  1. The users need to turn on the fan and open all the windows of the room to ventilate the area so as to avoid breathing in the dangerous chemicals.
  2. In order to make the floor solid and free from the cracks, the users need to detach the old subflooring. The users also need to fill up all the cracks by using the putty knife and they need to use the leveler so as to fill up all the hollow areas as well as use the sander to level up all the high areas on the floor.
  3. If in case there is the molding attached to the wall of the room then the users need to use the pry bar to detach kit and then place it aside so as to install it again.
  4. Then the users need to use the vacuum or the broom to clean up all the dust and the debris particles from the floor and then let the floor to rest for almost 1 day and in the meantime, the users need to unpack all of their carpet tiles and place them in the same room so that they will adjust with the room temperature.

Part 2: Calculate And Draw The Guidelines

Once the users have allowed the carpet tiles and the floor to get rested then the users need to go on with the installing process:
  1. The users need to start by calculating the size dimensions of the room and locate the center of the room and mark down the center area by using the chalk.
  2. Then they need to divide up the whole room in the 4 quadrants of equal size and by making the two lines that should be perpendicular and should meet up at the center point.
  3. Then they require to use the T-square tool and they need to make sure that the line intersection at the center point should make up a 90-degree angle respectively. So that the center point will be the starting point and the users need to follow up on the marked lines for the installation process.

Part 3: Design The Layout Of The Carpet Tile

The 2 carpet tiles must consist of the arrow stickers that will indicate the direction of the pile. The users need to mix up the different packed carpet tiles so as to make different color variations. The users are advised to orient the carpet tiles in the same direction as it will form a smooth look. The users can also rotate the carpet tiles to the 90 degrees so as to form the checkerboard look. The users need to start laying the carpet tiles at the center point of the room and then process towards the outwards of the wall so as to lay the tiles in determined rows within the marked room quadrant. Once the users reach the wall area they need to cut the carpet tile so that the tile will get fitted to that place that is left within the endmost tile that they have placed at the wall corner. Then the users need to calculate the leftover distance and then they need to make the mark on the backside of the carpet tile.

Part 4: Installing The Carpet Tiles At Centre

The carpet tile at the center point is usually placed along its corners at the market lines over the floor. The users need to start from the center point by laying the four tiles at each quadrant edge so as to create the square.
  1. The users need to detach the covering from the back of the tiles and then gently lay the tiles over the marked lines. Then they need to apply the pressure over the tiles so as to secure them with the floor.
  2. Then the users need to use the trowel so as to spread the carpet adhesive over the entire surface of the subfloor and allow it to sit for some time. The next step the users need to follow is to place down the tiles within the marked guidelines and apply gentle pressure over the tiles so that they get secured with the floor.

Part 5: Installing The Tiles In Each Of The Quadrants

The users need to place the tiles in the rows and starting within the central area and then working outwards towards the wall. Embrace each of the tiles closely with the corners of the other nearby tiles. Once the users have finished up placing the tiles in one respective quadrant then they need to shift to the other quadrant and repeat the same steps while placing the carpet tiles.

Part 6: Trimming The Tiles

In order to form the perfect square the user needs to trim the carpet tiles at the wall linings so that they will get perfectly fitted and to do so they need to follow the below steps:
  1. Calculate the total space between the last tile and the wall.
  2. The users need to use the carpet cutter and the straight edge in order to trim up the tiles so that they get fitted properly.
  3. If the users need to trim the tiles at the odd places of the floor like at the door jambs then the users need to trace out the area on the paper piece and then they need to use that paper piece as the guide to trim up the tiles.

Part 7: Use The Roller

Once the users have placed all the tiles then they need to use the floor roller so that the tiles will get completely affixed with the floor. Then they need to re-attach all the molding to the wall and then clean up the floor by using the vacuum.
