10 Ultimate & Easy Steps For Building Window Seats

A window seat will help make a beautiful and cozy addition to any room in the home. It is very easy to build window seats, you simply need to follow all the mentioned steps carefully in order to achieve the desired result of your task:
  1. Choose An Area: The first step is to choose a window but in an unobstructed area that will be used as a window seat. Ideally, the window that the user will choose must be recessed, as this will help to provide a perfect look for the seat itself. The user can choose any window as long as there is ample space in front of it.
  2. Purchase: After the above step then it is time to purchase floating cabinet units according to the needed size to use as the seat base. The user can go for over-the-refrigerator cabinets that will work best because they are shorter as well as very easier to maneuver than the full-sized cabinets. Usually, the average-sized window nook is around 6 feet in length, the user will need a pair of cabinets.
  3. Remove The Baseboards: From the wall around the window remove the baseboards with the help of a tip of a crowbar or simply trim puller in space that is between the baseboard and the wall. Finish pulling the baseboard using the hand as this will help to avoid damaging the drywall.
  4. Arrange Boards: The user needs to get the 2x4 or 2x6 boards right in a frame around the front of the window. Fit all the boards together in the rectangular shape of the length as well as the depth of the window. This frame is called toe-kick.
  5. Fasten The Toe Kick: With the help of 3-inch wood screws secure the toe kick. The user must use 2 screws for each of the joints at the place where the boards connect. Once it is done, now anchor down the toe kick to the floor simply by driving a screw into the floor at each of the corners of the frame.
  6. Fit The Cabinets: Now it is time to secure the cabinets into place right beside one another but inside the toe-kick. If measured rightly they will slip right inside without any difficulty. Take a moment to make sure the units are flush with both of the surrounding walls to one another.
  7. Attach The Cabinets: With the help of a two 2.5 inch drywall screws secure the cabinet to the wall. Secure down the first screw in the edge of the face frame right at the top of one unit to the neighboring unit. Drive down the next screw in the opposite direction through the bottom of the other cabinet unit.
  8. Install Side Cabinets: Fasten the side cabinets to the seat cabinets. The user can place in 1 to 2 more floating cabinet units but in the same dimensions on sides of the bench. Fit the cabinets into the frame all alongside the seat cabinets, then secure them to the face frames using drywall screws.
  9. Cushions And Pillows: To provide the finishing touches place the cushions and pillows to cover the bench from end to end. The user can place a few decorative throw pillows on top.
  10. Finishing Touches: To hide the toe-kick attach the molding all along the bottom of the seat base. Also, use the matching plywood to hide the joints in stacked cabinets.
