Simple And Easy Way Of Building A Window Seat With Drawers

Building a window seat with drawers is an easy task, all you need to do is follow the below mentioned steps carefuly and achieve the desired result of your task:
  1. Area: The first step is to select an area for the window bench as it is important to make sure that it is at least 60 inches wide as well as the bottom of the window should rise at least 20 inches from floor level. The user is advised to not place the window seat over an HVAC vent or front of a baseboard heater.
  2. Cabinet With Drawers: Remove the Cabinet drawers and doors, since this will help to lightens the cabinet.
  3. Remove: In this step the user needs to remove the baseboard as well as any obstructions. Gently pull away the baseboards using the prybar. Remove the wall as well as floor obstructions like door trim, door stops, and the floor transitions that will be not used after the window seat is installed.
  4. Window Seat Base: The heart of the window seat is its frame like two-by-four. For this frame, the user needs to cut 2 two-by-fours to 60 inches. Using the scrape materials, cut 5 boards to about 12 inches each. Then place the 5 12-inch boards exactly perpendicular between the two 60-inch boards like one at each end, and the other one at the center (30 inches on-center), and the remaining two boards between the other boards (15 inches on-center). Nail at the frame, the user needs to frequently check the square with the Speed Square. These dimensions are just for example purpose, the user can use the same way for different dimensions.
  5. Attach The Window Seat: Now place the window seat base right in front of the window in a way so that the back of the seat frame touches the wall. Locate the wall studs with the help of a stud finder. It is important to pre-drill the holes on the inside of the base frame at each stud, then secure the base frame on to the wall using the 3-inch screws with the washers.
  6. Attach The Cabinets: With the help of a cordless drill and the 1-inch screws, secure the cabinets to the base frame. The user should first attach the cabinets from the side, using 2-inch screws. Then, attach the paired cabinets to the frame, it is important to step them 9/16-inch forward as this will allow the space for trim board underneath as a toe-kick.
  7. Attach The Trim Toe-Kick: Cut the trim board with the miter saw like 60 inches. After that keep the trim board all across the front of the base frame as a toe-kick. With the help of a cordless electric nailer, secure the toe-kick with 6 to 7 finish nails.
  8. Cut And Attach Seat To Size: With the help of a circular saw, cut the sheet of plywood to the size of the seat like 60 inches by 30-1/2 inches. Place the seat on the cabinets, but keep the factory-finish edge facing outwards. The back should almost touch the wall, keep a slight 1/8-inch gap. Drive 1/2-inch screws the upward direction through the roof of the cabinets and also inside the seat plywood. At last, install the drawers back into the cabinet
