The metal blinds are attractive accessories in most homes since the crosswise slats can be easily adjusted to let in any amount of sunlight. The life span of metal blinds is near about 7-8 years if cared properly but you need to clean them regularly. If you want to clean your metal blinds then you need to collect all the required items and then follow all the given steps. Here are the item list and steps for this process:

Things You Will Need For This Process

  1. Flat-Head Screwdriver
  2. Towel Or Tarp
  3. Water
  4. Soft-Bristled Scrub Brush Or Sponge
  5. Bathtub (Optional)
  6. Hose (Optional)

Steps For This Process

This method is only to clean metal blinds and make sure do not use this method on wood blinds:
  1. Remove your blinds by undoing all the brackets from the end of the headrail. These brackets are comparatively easy to pry open by using a flat-head screwdriver. Open all the bracket and pull its rail toward you to take the blinds off from your wall.
  2. Next you need to spread your blinds on your floor. On the floor of a bathtub, you need to spread the blinds. Contemplate laying a towel down on the floor first if you think that the blinds will be scratched.
  3. Then you need to fill your tub with some water and a liquid detergent. Let the water flow until the blinds get covers. Add 1/4 cup (59 mL) and add 1/4 cup (59 mL) of white vinegar if you need extra cleaning power to cut through grease on the dirtiest metal blinds and then pour this mixture in water.
  4. Leave your blinds in solution to soak for 30 minutes only when you brush the dust off them frequently. Blinds with deep build-up grime will take up to 3 hours or more or you can also leave the blinds water overnight.
  5. Now you need to scrub the stains by using a soft brush or sponge because soaking is not enough for removing the tough stains that's why scrub brushes will help you in this task. Choose something soft which will not scratch your blinds like nylon kitchen brush, sponge (non-abrasive), or soft cloth. Scrub the slats with light pressure until they are all clean fully.
  6. Then after cleaning your blinds, rinse them by using clean water for removing the applied soap solution. Drain your tub now and then fill it with clean water. Use your simple water bucket to slosh water onto your blinds or let the water spray onto it until they are free from soap. Check both sides of blinds for any leftover soap or stains.
  7. Next you need to hang your blinds in the fresh air until they dry wholly. In good weather, drape your blinds over a railing, a fence, or some other place that is easily exposed to sunlight and circulating air.
  8. It will help your blinds dry out more instantaneously. You could also throw your blinds over a shower railing, garage beam. Wait for your blinds to become wholly dry to the touch before hanging them back up on your wall.
  9. If you want to speed up your drying process, wipe your blinds off by using a dry cloth. You can also turn a hairdryer down to lower heat setting and then use it, simply hold your hairdryer about 8 inches (20 cm) above your blinds and keep it moving.
  10. Keep your blinds away from any radiators & heaters to avert warping them. Avert leaving your blinds against hot surfaces.
