Step By Step Procedure & Items Required To Seal Kitchen Sink To Granite

The caulk can easily help in keeping the water from getting seeped below the kitchen sink rim. Usually, the caulk gets dried off and also gets cracked out with the passage of time that is why it is required to replace it periodically so as to help to keep the area sealed perfectly. The users can easily seal the kitchen sink to granite by gathering the below-mentioned materials and then following the below-defined step by step procedure:

Materials Required

  • Utility Knife, Paper Towels, Rubbing Alcohol
  • Painter's Tape, Caulk, Caulk Gun
  • Water

Procedure

  • Clean The Sink Rim: Start by making sure that the sink rim is tidy as well as dry. Then detach the pre-existing caulk within the rim by using the utility knife.
  • Trim The Old Caulk: Now trim within the pre-existing caulk and lift it freely within the surface of the rim. Then clean the area by using the paper towels soaked up in the rubbing alcohol so as to detach the pre-existing residue of the caulk and be assured to clean the surface so that it will accept the fresh new caulk.
  • Dry Off The Sink Surface: Then allow the rim of the sink and the edges of the counter to get dried off completely. Apply the painter's tape all over the surface of the counter that is next to the area of the rim. This will eventually make the cleaning easier and will assure the even and straight caulk job.
  • Trim Off The Caulk Tube: Then trim off the caulk tube trim by using the utility knife. The users are advised to make the trim as large as sink opening all around the sink so as to forbid letting the caulk to come out in large amount at once. Then insert the caulk tube tip within the caulk gun and then trigger the gun plunger within the back.
  • Prime Down The Tube: After that, prime-down the tube by compressing the gun trigger till the caulk gets risen to the gun tip. Then place the gun tip adjacent to the rim sink edge where it actually meets the area of the countertop. Then gently compress the gun trigger so as to release the caulk line all around the rim edge. The users need to keep on moving the gun as compress the gun trigger by holding up the gun tip over again to the rim for the binding application.
  • Apply The Caulk: The users need to apply the caulk to the area all around the sink rim from one edge to another. Then lift the painter's tape away within the counter surface. Then they need to dampen their finger and then smoothen up the caulk over the rim edge and to the counter as well. By doing this it will offer the tight seal and then press down the caulk line smoothly over again to the counter and the rim as well by sliding the finger as they go.
  • Re-dampen The Finger: Next re-dampen the finger continuously so as to be assured to slide easily adjacent to the caulk. The users need to dampen the paper towel by using the water. They need to use the damp paper towel so as to clean off their unneeded caulk or the caulk that has been stayed on the rim edge for a longer period of time.
  • Allow The Caulk To Get Dried: Finally allow the caulk to get dried off completely for near about one day before using the kitchen sink and the nearby area so as to forbid it from making it too wet early.
