Kitchen Sink Leaking Underneath: Step By Step Process To Repair A Leak Under The Sink

Step By Step Process To Repair A Leak Under The Sink

Usually, the leaks that are beneath the kitchen sink can cause much damage but eventually, these problems can be tackled easily. The water that destroys the floor or the cabinet may come within the supply hoses, drainpipes, or from the faucet as well. The users can easily find out the actual source of leakage when they start crawling the kitchen sink by using the flashlight and can easily repair the simple issues by fastening up the connection but at certain times it can be a much more complicated issue than that. The users can easily repair the leak under the sink at home by following the below-defined steps:

Step 1: Evaluating The Problem

The basic leak indications that the users can observe are the water-absorbed cabinet or the floor or the users can also find out the water stranding pool. If in case the leak comes from the squeezed water hose then there will be the quick spray apparent. If in case the users find out that the leak is coming within the drain line then they won't notice it properly until they won't use up the kitchen sink. However, if the users find out that the problem is with the defective seal all around the drain of the sink then they need to fill up the sink and allow the water to stand till they will apparently find out the leak. Usually, in most of the cases, the leak is always above the standing water or the wetness.

Step 2: Fixing The Leaks Of The Water Supply

The water within the supply of the faucet is usually beneath the pressure and that is why it gets sprayed off from any unfastened connection or from any damaged pipes. The ordinary drip sources can be the shut-off pipes with the shrunk fittings that are not that much fastened that they need to be. One of the simple ways to fasten it is by holding the pipe with the wrench while they will swivel the compressed nut with another wrench. The leaks can also come within the connections of the faucet that can be a bit difficult to fasten them as they are placed at the back of the sink and the users can easily adjust them by using the locking or the adjustable pliers and not by using the wrench.

Step 3: Fixing Drain Leaks

The leaks that occur with the P-Trap can also be termed as the loose connection result or the block within the drain pipes or can also be the case of corrosion in the metal trap. If in case the users find out the leak once they have fastened all the nuts then they need to detach it so as to give it the proper cleaning. The users can also clean off the drain line by using the auger if in case they are having doubts regarding the blockage. The users can simply fasten the nuts on the P-trap with the hand but for the metal traps, they need to use the pliers. If they find out that the nut present on the metal trap is quite hardened and is not turned then there might be the case that they have been corroded and this time they need to renew the trap.

Step 4: Fixing Other Leaks

If in case the users are not able to find any leak source then they need to examine their sink drain that usually starts to leak when it is filled up completely with the water. If the users find out that there is the sink drain problem then they need to unfasten it and then repack it by using the putty.
