Steps To Reupholster A Dining Room Chair Seat/Cushion With Piping
Making The Piping
- Measure The Length: The first step is to measure the length of the chair seat on which piping is to be done. To determine the thickness of the bias strip a measuring tape is covered on the piping cord.
- Cut The Bias Strips: The next step is to cut the bias strips. Fabric is folded at an angle of 90 degree and cutted across the fold.
- Piping Cord: Then piping cord is covered with bias strip and the edges of the bias strip are aligned. Then a foot zipper is used to attach the strips closely with the cord.
Sewing The Cushion Cover
The steps for sewing the cushion cover are given below:
- Detach: The first step is to detach the cushion from the chair and remove the staples from the chair that holds the fabric.
- Set The Cushion: Next step is to set the cushion on the large sheet of paper and bring the bottom side up. With 1/2-inch seam allowance traces the pattern and cut the cover for the cushion.
- Determine The Length: Then determine the length of the sides of the cushion and cut the fabric strip according to those dimensions. If the bottom of the cushion is having piping then add 1-inch to this measurement.
- Sew: At the edges of cushion top sew piping loosely with 1/2-inch seam allowance and align the edges of cushion top and piping.
- Cover: To create a finished edge, cover the opposite end of the piping and fold the fabric half inch and sew it loosely.
- Pin: Next step is to pin the cushion sides and align the top edge side with the fabric and piping edges.
- Stitch: Stitch the end sides together with 1/2-inch seam allowance. Then remove the extra fabric and sew the piping on the bottom edge of the cushion.
- Pull New Cover: At last pull new cover on the cushion and staple it under the cushion foam. Then attach cushion back on the chair.
