How To Restring Blinds: Easy Step By Step Guide

Easy Step By Step Guide To Restring Blinds

The blinds that will not go up or down will make the entire look of the room disarranged. Some styles of blinds like Venetian blinds have two or more lift strings. These strings are connected across the pulleys in the headrail and then the blinds can be held in place with a locking mechanism. If any of the lift strings breaks or is not working properly, then restring broken blinds strings is the solution. The easy steps for restring blinds are mentioned below:
  1. Locking Clip: The first step is to lose the locking clip and then let the blinds come down as far as they will go with the help of remaining working strings.
  2. Remove The Blinds: Slip the headrail out of the mounting clips to remove the blinds. Lay down the blinds out on a flat work table.
  3. Pop Off The Plug Or Clip: On the bottom rail under the broken string carefully pop off the plug or the clip. Pull the knot of the old or broken string and then gently remove the string right from the bottom rail.
  4. New Blind String: After the above step is done then slide in the tip of a new blind string right in the hole in the bottom rail. Carefully feed the new string up through the holes of each blind slat, weaving in between the left as well as the right side of the ladder while passing the string into each of the successive blind slat.
  5. Push The End Of The String: Through the hole in the headrail right above the ladder push the end of the string. Feed the new string on the pulley above the hole and then pull it towards the pulley right over the locking mechanism of the blinds. Slip in the cord into the locking mechanism, and then pull about 10 feet of string into the locking mechanism.
  6. Cut The String: About 12 inches below the bottom rail cut the string. Make a knot at the bottom of the string that must be large enough so that the string cannot pass into the hole in the bottom rail. Pull up the string from the headrail & keep pulling until the knot is 1 inch from the bottom rail, then replace the plug or clip whichever is used. Repeat the same steps for any other broken or old strings. At last, hang the blinds in their mounting clips and check the operation of the blinds.
