How To Remove Rust From Carpet: Two Methods & Items Needed

Two Methods And Items Needed To Remove Rust From Carpet

If your carpet had the rust stains and you want to clean it without wasting your precious time then you need to collect some given items and then follow the 2 easy methods to finish this task. Follow both the methods carefully to achieve a better result:

Method 1: Dish Soap And Warm Water

  1. First of all, you need to collect certain items required for this method such as medium-sized bowl, sponge, 2 cups (470 mL) warm water, 1 tablespoon (15 mL) dish soap & lean white towel.
  2. After collecting the items, you need to remove the source which causes the rust stain on your carpet. If the rust stain came from furniture or from the plant stand then simply move it off your carpet before you start your cleaning work. You may need to permanently re-locate the offending piece of your furniture to protect the carpet from any future stains.
  3. Now you need to use your butter knife to scrape up the rust stain as much as possible. Mildly scrape your knife against the stain affected area, you will also see some small flakes of rust coming off from your carpet. Be patient because no one wants to snag threads or rip the carpet.
  4. Simply mix two cups (470 mL) water(warm) with one tablespoon (15 mL) of dish soap. Use your water bowl or your water bucket to mix your stain removal mixture, just to be sure that it is clean before you add the warm water & soap to avert passing any dirt or dye to the carpet.
  5. Now you need to use your sponge to blot the stain affected area with the warm water and dish soap solution. Blot again and again until the stain affected area is wholly soggy. You may need to congest out and then refill the sponge with soapy water solution several times just to make sure that the entire area is well-treated.
  6. Next leave the stain soak for at least 5 minutes once you've finished blotting because this will give the soapy water solution time to loosen the rust stain and will also clean the fibers of your carpet. You can leave the stain affected area wet for longer (10-15 minutes), but you have to be sure that the soapy water and any loosening rust stain doesn’t dry & set into your carpet again.
  7. Then you need to soak up extra water with your clean white towel. A white towel will help you to see how much of the stain is pass on up from your carpet. Press the dry sections of your towel frequently to the stain affected area. The rust stain will transfer from your carpet to your towel.
  8. You need to use warm water and ammonia for the tougher type of stains. If the rust stain is still there after using warm water and dish soap then you need to make a new mixture of two cups (470 mL) of warm water and one tablespoon (15 mL) of the household ammonia. Pour this mixture precisely onto the stain and leave for 5 minutes. Blot your carpet dry with the help of a white towel after it has soaked completely.

Method 2: Lemon Juice And Salt

  1. Collect certain items first such as lemon juice (fresh or bottled), Salt (table or sea), 2 cups (470 mL) hot water, clean white towel, medium-sized bowl (optional) & sponge (optional).
  2. Then you have to remove the offending piece of furniture from your carpet before starting your cleaning process. You have to choose a new location for your furniture or coat it with an anti-rust solution to avert new stains.
  3. Now you need to scrape up any extra rust by using a butter knife. The more rust you remove before cleaning, the better your chances of getting rid of the stain wholly. Be patient because you don't want to rip or snag your carpet threads.
  4. After that, you need to apply lemon juice and salt directly on the stain affected area. Simply use fresh lemon juice or bottled juice. If you have sea salt then you need to sprinkle that on top of your lemon-soaked area. If sea salt is not available then common table salt will also work, too. Let the stain affected area soak for at least 5 minutes.
  5. Now you need to pour 2 cups (470 mL) of hot water onto your treated carpet. The rust stain will disappear. If the stain is exceptionally large, you have to use 2-3 cups (470 mL) of hot water.
  6. Use your clean white towel to blot up the extra liquid. Get as much liquid which is soaked up from your carpet as you can. If your towel gets wholly soaked then you need to use another clean white towel & then continue until the stain affected area is as much dry as possible.
  7. Finally you need to use a mixture of lemon juice, vinegar(white), and sea salt(if possible) for tougher stains. Mix one cup (240 mL) of vinegar(white) with one tablespoon (30 mL) of lemon juice and one tablespoon (15 ml) of salt. Pour this mixture onto the rust stain affected area and leave it for at least 2 hours.
