How To Remove Black Tar From Wood Floors: Steps To Remove

Steps To Remove Black Tar From Wood Floors

Tar is a black sticky substance that comes from wood & roots. Tar is used to seal wooden hulls and roofing shingles in order to prevent them from rotting. The diluted tar is used as a component to some cosmetics, as an anti-dandruff agent, as a candy flavoring, and as a spice for meat. It is very hard to clean black tar from the wood floors due to its sticky nature. In order to remove black tar from the wood floors without damaging the wood, the user needs to follow the below-given steps:
  1. Scrape The Excess Tar:
The first step is to scrape the excess tar from the wood flooring by using a dull pointed object such as fingernails, popsicle stick, or any other dull pointed object. It has been recommended not to use any sharp object for the removal process as it can damage the wood flooring. A plastic spatula can also be used to scrape off the excess tar.
  2. Harden The Remaining Tar:
After scraping the excess tar off the wood flooring, the user needs to harden the remaining tar with ice cubes. First, the user needs to put some ice cubes into a plastic bag that can be resealed. The ice cubes containing plastic bag should be placed over the remaining tar until the tar becomes brittle and hard.
  3. Scrape Off The Tar Again:
Once the tar hardens, the user needs to scrape it off again with a plastic spatula or any other dull pointed object. The user needs to scrape off the tar by moving the outside of the tar towards the center. During the step, the user can harden the tar again by placing ice cubes plastic bag over it. The step should continue until the entire tar is off the wood flooring.
  4. Remove Tar Residue:
In order to remove the tar residue, the user needs to pour some vegetable oil or a dry cleaning solvent on a cloth and rub the tar residue with it in circular motions. The step should continue until the residue transfers on to the cloth and if required, the user can repeat the step as well.
  5. Buff The Flooring:
After removing the entire black tar from the wood flooring, the user needs to buff the flooring afterward with a dry cloth.
