How To Make Blinds: Step By Step Process Of Making The Blinds

Step By Step Process Of Making The Blinds

Blinds are known as the best window coverings as well as decorations, but the one that is brought from the store can be expensive. However, the owner can make the blinds at home themselves and in doing so will save money. The step by step process of making your own blinds is as follows:
  • Start the job, with measuring the length as well as the width of the window, that is going to be covered, with the help of measurement tape. Make sure to measure from all around the frame of the window instead of the glass used in the window. The important point to note is that the actual window to cover the material must be bigger.
  • Get the fabric but the patterned that will fit on the blinds. Fabric will cover up the blinds, so select a pattern according to your choice. The option is to pick something that has a pattern of a double-sided or the other way is sew the pieces of the fabric all together in a way the front, as well as back both, will look appealing. Fabrics that will work best are 100% cotton or a blend of cotton and polyester. After getting a good piece of the fabric, spread it on the flat surface to clean out all the wrinkles.
  • Now it is time to take the measurement of the fabric exactly the size that is needed for the window. Actually the fabric must be a little bit longer than the estimated measurement, this is to account for the hems that will be added later. Also, make sure to add an extra 2 inches to the overall length of the fabric and also to the width. With the help of the pencil, mark down the final estimated dimensions on the fabric. This cut of the fabric is the only thing that is needed for a basic blind which will hang flat with the headrail of the traditional blind.
  • Next take a sharp pair of the scissors to cut the fabric. After the window measurements are transferred to the fabric, in case there is any extra than trim it away. The cutting job is regarded as the trickier job & this is because a single mistake could throw off the entire blind. Work carefully and slowly, cutting in the straight lines so that the fabric looks as even as possible.
  • In order to make a 1-inch hem simply fold all fabric sides. On the flat surface, place the fabric and keep the front face down. From one of the long end pick up the fabric, then fold it by 1/2 inch, and fold it again. In order to flatten it exactly on the fabric's top then crease it. Repeat the same directions from the other side of the fabric for making the second hem.
  • Take a needle and the thread to sew the hems in the place. Place some of the pins into the hem so that it will fasten tightly with the fabric. For making the hems very stronger, simply sew them in the place with the help of a zigzag stitch. This type of stitch not only helps in preventing the hem from the fraying, but it will also add a little bit more look to the finished blinds. If the user is not worried about that, then simply complete it with the help of a straight stitch or with the other kind of the alternative.
  • For the bottom hem fold and sew the fabric as this will help a lot to protect the fabric from getting damaged. The bottom hem is usually a little bit bigger from the side ones. So first fold the fabric by 1/2 inches and then press it flat and after that fold it again by 1 1/2 inches. After it flattens then carefully sew it to secure it.
  • Now get the regular blinds that need to be of the same size as the ones that the user is making. Take glue and then apply to the headrail and to the back of the fabric. Turn the blinds on to the cords that are holding the slats together. From each of the slate cut out the ladder cord-free. After this, simply pull off the caps from the bottom bar so that it will be removed. Try to remove most of the slats and then simply space the ones that are remaining evenly. With the help of the craft glue, join the slats with the fabric. Replace the bottom bar as well as also tie the pull cords with the caps.
  • Finally, apply the glue to the fabric with the bottom bar & this will complete the blinds. Now hang up the headrail to the wall with the help of a mounting brackets.
