How To Fix A Lazy Boy Recliner Mechanism: Steps To Fix

Steps To Fix A Lazy Boy Recliner Mechanism

Recliner Mechanism refers to a mechanism with which the back and footrest of a reclining chair is pushed out and raised up respectively to accommodate user preference. The faulty recliner mechanism of a lazy boy reclining chair can be fixed by following the below-given steps:
  1. Check The Recliner's Tension:
The repair process starts by checking the recliner's tension. First, the user needs to lean back the recliner's backrest and see whether it works in a way it should or not. If the backrest gets hard while leaning back, the user needs to decrease some of its tension for smooth movement. Apart from that, if the recliner leans back too quickly, the user has to increase its tension a little.
  2. Flip Or Tilt The Recliner:
The next step will be to flip the recliner in a way so that its armrests and headrest is touching the ground. The user can also tilt the recliner forward making sure the back of the recliner is in the upright position.
  3. Check Adjustment Mechanism:
The tension of the recliner can only be adjusted if the recliner has thumbwheels located underneath or at the back of the seat. If there are no thumbwheels, the user cannot adjust the tension of the recliner. In some cases, the thumbwheels are replaced with wingnuts with which the user can adjust the tension of the recliner. It has been recommended by the experts to fix thumbwheels on the right & left sides of the recliner. At the end of the bolt, thumbwheel occurs and the user can also see tension springs stretching from the right bolt to the left bolt.
  4. Rotate Adjustment Mechanism:
In order to increase and decrease the tension of the recliner, the user needs to rotate thumbwheels clockwise and anti-clockwise respectively. The user can fix the recliner by checking the recliner’s manual repeatedly and follow the required basic instructions. The adjustment mechanism can be turned with fingers only but if the user is unable to do so, he can use sturdy pliers.
  5. Test The Adjusting Mechanism:
After that, the user needs to flip over the recliner again and make it stand in the upright position. In order to test the adjusting mechanism, the user needs to sit & lean back on the recliner and stretch his legs. The recliner should feel comfortable after adjustment and if it doesn't, the user needs to make some more adjustments.
  6. Repeat The Entire Adjustment Process:
The last step will be to repeat the entire adjusting process for more comfort. It has been recommended not to over adjust the tension as it can result in its breakage. After making the adjustments, the tension spring shouldn't be move and if it moves, the user needs to turn the mechanism clockwise until the spring gets tight. Similarly, if the spring is too tight, the user needs to turn the mechanism anti-clockwise to loosen it up.
