How To Cut Crown Molding For Cabinets: 3 Easy Parts & Items Needed

3 Easy Parts & Items Needed To Cut Crown Molding For Cabinets

The users can easily cut the crown molding for cabinets at home by gathering all the materials that are mentioned and then follow the below-described procedure:

Gather The Materials

  • Crown Molding
  • Heavy Working Gloves & Miter Saw
  • Safety Goggles & Measuring Tape
  • Sliding Bevel & Protractor
  • Paper & Pencil

Part I- Measuring The Cabinet

  • Calculate: Start by using the measuring tape and calculate the length from one of the cabinet sides and then calculate the length of the other cabinet side as well. Then they need to place the measuring tape flush at each of that area where the users want to add the crown molding. Then they need to calculate the measurements as exactly as possible so that the users won't trim the pieces that will be too short or too long.
  • Sliding Bevel: Then they need to use the sliding bevel in order to find out the angles of the outside edges. Then they need to place the inner corner of the bevel's tightening nut at the cabinet corner and then align the blade and the handle so that they will be flushed at each side of the cabinet. Then the users need to fasten the nut at the bevel in order to keep the calculated measurements in one place. The users can also use the protractor in order to locate the perfect degree of that angle respectively.
  • Calculate Angle: Then the users need to calculate the exact angle of the inner side of the cabinet by using the sliding level. They need to keep the bevel handle against at one of the angles that are connecting the sides and align the blade of the bevel until it gets flushed with the different sides. The users need to make sure that the tightening nut of the device is snuggled inside the angle and then screw it down so as to secure the calculated measurements. The users need to use the Protractor in order to alter this angle to a specific degree.
  • Protractor: Then use the protractor in order to locate the degree of the angles. Once the users measured the corner they need to place the bevel handle flushed against the paper piece. By using the angle they need to mark down the line at the device blade and then replace down the bevel by the protractor in order to locate the perfect cabinet angles and also locate the wall affixed edges respectively.

Part II- Trimming The Straight Pieces

  • Measure: Start by measuring the crown molding piece equal to the cabinet size and to do so they need to place the measuring tape at the crown edge and then extend it till the cabinet side length. They need to use the pencil so as to mark down the perfect spot that needs to get trimmed down. Then repeat the same procedure with each side of the cabinet.
  • Affix The Saw: Then they need to affix the saw at their desired angle and if the corner of the piece will get flushed against the frame or the wall then the straight ninety degrees trim will work perfectly and if the corner of the piece is standing freely then the users can select the angle in order to maximize the visible appearance and in the situation the sixty degrees trim will work perfectly.
  • Hold: Then the users need to hold the corner base and the crown top with the saw fence. Then lay the crown base with the milter saw and the kay the crown top with the saw bed and then hold both of them tightly so that both of them won't move.
  • Trim: Then the users need to trim the clean-cut within the crown and then slide the molding in a way that the marked area will get perfectly lined with the saw blade. Then they need to lift the blade downwards and then trim the wood and they need to repeat the same technique while trimming the other straight pieces respectively.

Part III- Trimming The Corners

  • Divide: Start by dividing the measurements of the angle in half as the users need to trim 2 pieces of the crown for each corner and they need to adjust their recorded angles as well. Then they need to take their earlier angle measurements and then divide it in the half and then use the new numbers in order to set up their miter saw.
  • Angle Up: Then the users need to angle up their miter saw to the right side in order to trim the right edges and then set the blade with the corner angle measurements. Then they need to pull down the blade with the crown molding in order to make the clean trim and for the outer right edges the users need to save up the left phase of the trim and for the inner right edges, they need to save up the right phase of the trim respectively.
  • Move Up: In order to make the left edges the users need to move up the blade and then use the angle measurements in so as to set up the saw in the exact degree. Then the users need to create the swift trim within the crown molding and for the outer left edges, the users need to save up the right portion of the molding. For the inner left edges, the users need to save up the left portion of the molding.
  • Fix: Finally they need to fix up the trimmed Crowns with the cabinet by using the wood glue and the finishing nails as well. Once the entire trims are completed they need to affix the molding with the cabinet by using the 6d nails over the straight pieces and the 4d nails on the edges. In order to allow the seams to be together, the users need to apply the wood glue to those areas where the molding is connected.
