A cupboard is a piece of furniture that is used for storing things. The kitchen cupboard might actually be full of cups, while as in the bedroom the cupboard might store sweaters and socks. The cupboard usually has 2 doors that open and inside has the shelves for storage. In order to maintain the look of the cupboard it should be painted regularly, the easy steps for painting are given below:
  1. Remove: To begin the paint job the first step is to remove all knobs and handles as well as the contents of the cupboards and also from the drawers. After that use masking tape to protect out hinges and glass and the user also needs to put down dust sheets, this sheet will help to protect other parts of the room.
  2. Washing: After the above step is done then it is time to wash the Cupboards down using sugar soap or a strong detergent solution for strong grease. The solutions will help to remove any build-ups and will create a smooth surface. Simply apply the cleaning solution with the cloth and then Wipe off any soap residue using a damp cloth.
  3. Sanding: After wiping the Cupboards let the cupboards dry, once it's dry then sand with fine paper, however, the user can skip this step if in case they have melamine or high gloss Cupboards surfaces. After sanding is done clean the surface with a dry cloth to remove the sanding dust.
  4. Fill Imperfections: After sanding use a good quality ready mixed filler to fill out any imperfections and then sand again. The user can use any filler that is best for filling in gaps on cupboards. The filler should be easy to sand, should dry white, besides that it should not shrink or crack as well.
  5. Wood Or Melamine Primer: Now its time to apply the primer wood or melamine primer that totally depends on the surface. For a smooth finish on the doors use a small roller. Let the primer to dry completely before heading to next step.
  6. Paint: Use the water-based paint or semi-gloss latex paint, which means that it has quick drying time and won’t smell at all during the painting process. Start applying the paint from inside edges and all openings of the face frames, after that go for the outer cabinet sides, and at last the face frame fronts. This will help to work quickly in the less critical areas, besides that it will help to check and correct any drips. It is very important to apply the paint in thin coats and cover all the area.
  7. Second Coat: Apply two coats of the paint. Once the first coat is completely dry, then sand again using fine sandpaper as this will help to ensure a smooth and professional finish. But before applying the second coat wipe off any dust using a damp cloth.
  8. Masking Tape: Once the second coat is completely dry, then its time to carefully take off the masking tape put all the knobs and handles back on their respective locations. If the user wants even more of a change, then they can easily replace the old handles or knobs with new ones.
