Easy Steps & Items Required To Convert A Dresser Into A Bathroom Vanity

If you have a dresser at your home and you want to turn it into a bathroom vanity, you can do so very easily. Simply collect some items required to do the task and then follow the given steps carefully.

Items Required

  • Jigsaw & Dresser
  • Drill, Drop-In Sink & Level
  • Faucet, Measuring Tape & Tile
  • Sander, Paint, Wet Saw, Shellac & Hammer
  • Clear Adhesive, Screwdriver, Wood Glue & L-brackets
  • Nails, Drill Bits & Sandpaper

Steps

  • Cleaning The Dresser: The users need to start by detaching the doors and the metal hardware from the dresser by unbinding all the screws and nuts. Then they need to sand down all the surfaces of the dresser carefully. The users can also tile up the dresser top or they can leave it as the wood top if they wish so.
  • Making The Sink Adjustments: The users need to trim down the center part of the dresser top in order to fit the sink in the future as well. They need to place the trimmed drawer back to its position and place it in a way that it won't move from its position by using the wood glue and the nails as well from the inner surface so that the drawer won't get unclosed so easily.
  • Making The Adjustments For The Plumbing: For the below drawers, the users need to trim its back off and then drive it forward so as to reduce the drawer width. Then place it back to its position by using the L-brackets or the nails.
  • Applying The Paint: Then the users need to apply the high gloss paint to the entire surface of the dresser by using the soft paintbrush. In order to secure the dresser from getting damaged by the moisture, the users are advised to apply 2 layers of the high-grade varnish material.
  • Marking The Placement Of The Sink: The users need to find out the sink placement and to do so they need to be assured to leave sufficient area for the placement of the sink over the top surface of the dresser. Then the users need to find out the faucet placement and to do so they need to mark the circles over the area where the faucet and the sink are going to be installed.
  • Trimming The Holes For The Faucet And The Sink: The users need to use the electric drill with the drill bit attached to it and then start from the market circle at the sink area and then trim it by using the jigsaw. Then they need to lay the sink in the trimmed area and be assured to make it get fitted perfectly. The users need to repeat the same process while trimming the faucet area as well.
  • Lay The Tiles: If the users are placing the tiles over the top surface of the vanity then they need to use the wet saw to trim down the tiles accordingly. Once the users have trimmed down all the tiles then the users need to start placing the tiles from the central area by applying the adhesive material to the backside of the tile and some drops over the wooden top of the vanity. Then they need to carefully place the tile over it and then place the next tile in its position. The users are advised to avoid bumping the tiles and make sure their seams are together. Once the users find out that the adhesive material is dried completely then they need to seal the surface by using the shellac material. The users are advised to ensure that there are no gaps left in between the tiles as this can lead to the water leakage through the tiles.
  • Apply The Sealer: If the users are leaving the wooden top of the vanity as it is, then they need to apply the two coats of the varnish over the entire surface in order to prevent it from the moisture.
  • Install The Sink: The users at last need to place the sink in its trimmed area and to do so the users need to apply the clear adhesive to the sink sides so as to keep it in its place. The users then need to seal it by using the caulk and they need to recheck the entire surface so as to make sure that no holes are present in between them as this can eventually lead to the water leakage through the sink and through the faucet as well. Then the users need to place the vanity in its desired location and attach the faucet as well.
