Methods & Items Needed To Clean Soft Leather Sofa

A leather sofa is not a cheap type of furniture, so it requires regular cleaning and proper maintenance to be a long time living product. Your leather furniture can easily get stains from liquid and other oily items such as grease and hair oil. If you want to clean your soft furniture sofa then collect the given items and follow the mentioned steps to complete your work without making any mistake. Follow each and every step carefully to complete your work.

Method 1: Maintaining Your Leather Furniture

In order to maintain your leather furniture, You first need certain items mentioned below before following the steps for maintaining the leather furniture:
  • Vacuum With Attachments
  • Microfiber Cloths
  • Water
  • White Vinegar
  • Small Bowl
  • Leather Conditioner

  1. Use A Vacuum: Do regular cleaning of your leather furniture at least once in a month. Many attachable brushes are available for your vacuum cleaner, attach one of them and remove cushions and cover for deep cleaning. Keep this in your mind that the hot air of your vacuum cleaner may damage the leather and the weight and sharp edges of the vacuum cleaner can scratch the leather easily.
  2. Wipe The Furniture: Grab a microfiber cloth and wipe the leather down from top to bottom. Use a clean and dry microfiber cloth for this process.
  3. Mix: After wiping it with a cloth now, you need to mix an equal amount of water and vinegar in small bucket. The amount which is recommended is the 1/2 cup of water (120 mL) with 1/2 cup of white vinegar (120 mL).
  4. Wipe Away: Now, dip a clean microfiber cloth into the created mixture and then clean the leather with this cloth and remember to work in a circular motion.
  5. Dry Off: Use a clean microfiber towel to dry your leather furniture and leave it for few minutes.
  6. Apply: You can also apply conditioner on your leather furniture between every 6-12 months to keep your leather furniture maintained.

Method 2: For Treating Stains/ Clean Leather Sofa

In order to treat stains in your leather furniture, You first need certain items mentioned below before following the steps for treating your leather sofa:
  • Paper Towels & Washcloth
  • Baking Soda & Rubbing Alcohol
  • Cotton Balls & Distilled Water
  • Lemon Juice & Cream Of Tartar
  • Small Bowl & Spoon

  1. Blot Away: If you find any spill on your leather furniture, blot it away as quickly as possible. Use clean paper towels to wipe it and then take a clean, dry cloth to blot the affected area with it to remove any remaining moisture.
  2. Baking soda: If you have the grease stains and other oily stains then clean it with a dry washcloth as much as possible then sprinkle some baking soda on the affected area and leave it for 2-3 hours and wipe it with a clean cloth.
  3. Rubbing Alcohol: If you have ink stains on your leather furniture then you can use rubbing alcohol to get rid out of this problem. Simply dip a cotton ball into rubbing alcohol and gently rub it on the affected area. Repeat this process until the ink stain is gone from your leather surface.
  4. Distilled Water: Take a clean cloth and dip it into the distilled water and rub the affected area with it, do this for 2-3 times and leave it for 30-45 minutes to get the clean surface again.
  5. Lemon Juice & Cream Of Tartar: The cream of tartar can also help you in this process. Mix 30ml (2 tbsp.) of lemon juice and 30ml (2 tbsp.) of cream of tartar in a small water bowl. Spread this mixture over the affected area and leave it for 10 minutes for sitting it on the stains. Take a damp cloth and wipe the mixture with it. Remember this mixture is not suitable for darker pieces of leather.

Tips for This Project

  • Don't pour water directly on your leather furniture, always use a cloth to wet your leather.
  • Always remember not to use furniture polishes, saddle soap, ammonia, and detergents for cleaning your leather furniture because it will leave stains on your leather furniture.
