7 Easy Steps Of Cleaning The Smoke Stained Blinds
If there is smoke in the home, then these tobacco smoke stains will show up on the decor. If the blinds have gradually turned yellow with the smoke over time, then clean it off to restore the blinds to their original color and look. The easy steps for cleaning the smoke-stained blinds are mentioned below:
- Blind String: Start the cleaning process by pulling the blind string that will extend the blinds to their full length. Turn the dowel that is on the side of the blinds to close them off completely. This will help to make the blind slats lay down flat when kept on the ground.
- Remove: After the above step is done then the user needs to remove the blinds from the fixtures right at the top of the corners of the window. Lay down the blinds on the floor. Although there is not much moisture dripping down from the blinds, it is a good idea to lay down newspapers first that will protect the floor. The user can also lay the blinds on an outdoor cement.
- Solution: For preparing a solution fill a bucket with the 2 pints of cool clean water. Mix in 2 tsp of the traditional table salt mix well. After the solution is properly mixed then dip a paper towel in the mixture but squeeze out the extra liquid so that the towel is not dripping, it is only damp.
- Wiping: On each of the blind individually wipe the damp paper towel, while wiping take care not to bend the slats. It depends on how thick the smoke stain is, the user may need to rinse the paper towel and wipe down the blinds for the second or third time to get them clean properly.
- Dry Paper Towels: Once the above step is done then wipe down the wet blinds with the help of dry paper towels. If the blinds are laid outside, then the user could also let them dry under the sun.
- Other Side: Flip over the blinds and then lay them back on the ground. Now perform the same cleaning process on another side of the blinds, with a freshly dampened paper towel. Also, dry this side in the same manner as did for first. If the paper towel was dripping wet and the other side of the blinds may have become wet again. Then dry that other side as well.
- Lift Up: Take up the blinds from the floor. After the cleaning is done then insert the top of the blinds in the fixtures that is at the top of the window. Check opening as well as the closing of the blinds normally.
