3 Easy Parts To Clean Rust Off Chrome Furniture
The chrome furniture looks good as an outdoor furniture but after a short period of time, this type of furniture needs to be refinished because chrome furniture will catch rust easily, if you want to clean rust from your chrome furniture then you need to follow the 3 parts which are given below:
Part 1: Cleaning The Chrome Furniture
- Mix: This is your first step to clean rust from chrome furniture, simply mix some water and dish soap in a bucket. Clean your chrome furniture first in order to get rid of all the dirt, marks & grime. Fill your water bucket with lukewarm water and also add 5 to 10 drops of dish soap(liquid).
- Wipe: Wipe your chrome furniture with the home-made cleaning solution. Dip a microfiber cloth or sponge into the soapy water solution and then scrub the chrome furniture with the soapy water, cover every inch of the metal. Again repeat this process if needed.
- Rinse: Once cleaned, now rinse your chrome furniture by using a clean cloth, once done, rinse you water bucket and fill it with plain water. Rinse the sponge thoroughly under the running water and wipe your chrome furniture again to remove the remaining solution.
- Clean: You can easily clean stubborn stains with the help of vinegar. In your sink or bucket mix an equal parts of water & vinegar. Soak the sponge, wring it out, and try to clean the tough spots with the vinegar and water solution.
- Dry: After following each and every step now, finally dry your chrome furniture and inspect for rust. Use a clean microfiber cloth or towel for this process.
Part 2: Removing Rust
- Cut: Take a aluminum foil and Cut some squares of it. Tear off a three-inch (7.6 cm) strip of foil from the roll of aluminum and then cut the strip into 3 equal pieces. Each piece of foil will be about three to four inches (7.6 to 10 cm) in length. You will rub your chrome furniture with the aluminum foil to remove rust from furniture.
- Fill: Fill a bowl with clean plain water. The plain water will work as lubricant betwixt the chrome furniture and the aluminum foil, remember this is a chemical reaction betwixt the two metals that removes the rust easily.
- Scrub: Scrub the rust of your chrome furniture with the piece of aluminum foil. Dip a piece of your aluminum foil into the water bowl to make it wet and then lightly rub the wet aluminum foil against the rusted chrome furniture surface. Apply minor friction to produce the aluminum oxide that will dissolve the rust easily from the surface of your chrome furniture.
- Rinse & Dry: Now, you need to rinse and dry the affected area. Once the rust is removed completely, you need to use a hose to the sponge to rinse away the brown paste which comes after you scrubbed the rust. When all the paste and rust is clean then dry the affected area with the help of a clean microfiber cloth.
Part 3: Buffing and Polishing
- Buff: Buff your chrome furniture with a clean cloth. You can use a clean and dry microfiber cloth to rub the entire surface of your chrome furniture. Simply, apply gentle pressure on the metal & rub it in a circular motion. This process will help to remove any leftover dirt, rust, water and also help to buff the metal to give a new shine to your chrome furniture.
- Baby Oil: Once done now, apply a layer of baby oil. Baby oil is made up of mineral oil, which makes a great polish for wood and metal furniture and gives new and smooth shine to old rustic furniture. Squirt some drops of baby oil over the surface of your chrome furniture, spreading it every 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) on the surface of your furniture.
- Rub: Finally, rub the baby oil applied area with a clean soft cloth or dry microfiber cloth. Use a circular motion for this work, and apply only gentle pressure as you work. Repeat this process with a new clean cloth to remove any excess oil from the surface of your chrome furniture.
