Simple Way For Applying The Varathane Wood Stain

The Varathane is regarded as a special oil-based wood stainer. It can be used on any piece of wood furniture that gives deep and long-lasting finish. The simple way to apply varathane wood stain is mentioned below:
  1. Safety Gears: Before moving to the process the user should wear a dust mask as well as rubber gloves. The dust mask will protect against wood dust that is created from the sanding. The rubber gloves will be helpful if there is an old finish.
  2. Ventilate: If possible, the user should perform the sanding and staining in outdoor areas. It will help to keep the home clean. If in case the user is working inside, that time open up all the nearby doors and windows. Also, turn on any ventilation fans if it is available.
  3. Paint Stripper: If the wood has an old finish that time apply a leave-on paint stripper to the wood. It is best to select a paint stripper that does not have to rinse off afterward. Also, choose a stripper that matches the type of finish on the wood that the user is staining. Apply with a paintbrush and make sure to apply in a way that the entire surface is well-covered. Leave it for about 20 minutes so that the stripper will activate and will soften the finish.
  4. Paint Scraper: After the above step take a paint scraper and then scrape the old finish starting from one end of the wood to the other. Apply the light amount of pressure to avoid scratching the wood.
  5. Sanding: With the help of 120-grit sandpaper start sanding in the directions of wood grain. Start the sanding from one end of the wood, begin sanding in the circular motions in the grain direction, repeating until all the entire piece is sanded evenly. Once done then sand the wood again but this time with the 150-grit sandpaper. Sanding wood multiple times will help to get the smooth finish that will absorb plenty of Varathane stains. At last smooth the wood by sanding with the 180 grit sandpaper. After that look for any rough spot if there is any then sand that spot.
  6. Cleaning: Once the sanding is done then its time to wipe off all the sanding dust with the help of tack cloth, it's very important to remove all the debris as it can ruin the finish.
  7. Stir: It is important to stir the Varathane properly before applying it to the wood. With the help of a stirring stick stir it around for 15 to 30 seconds. Here it is important to make sure that the Varathane should be in uniform color, there should be no solid sediment floating in it.
  8. Load The Varathane: Dip a foam brush in the varathane, for a consistent and controlled application use the 2 inch foam brush. Apply a thin but consistent coat to the wood. Make sure it should not drip while applying. Drag the brush in the wood grain direction. Start from one end of the wood and follow the grains to the opposite end. Apply the varathane in small sections at a time as this will help to prevent the stain from drying out.
  9. Dry: Before letting the wood to dry scrub off any excess Varathane with the help of cloth before letting it dry. Wait about 1 hour for the stain to dry.
  10. Final Finish: Now recoat the wood with additional coat of Varathane to darken the finish. Then at last use the polyurethane and lacquer that is both water-resistant and good for finishing unsealed wood surfaces.
