Open your doors & windows, if possible, for ventilation, open the doors & windows for good ventilation, if it is not possible then plug in your portable fans instead.
  2. Rubber Gloves: Next you need to use rubber gloves in order to protect your hands from any damage. Fill 2 buckets with some water. Simply add some trisodium phosphate or the degreasing TSP substitute to one of your buckets. Read the manufacturer's instructions to know the proper ratio of water to mix in this cleaner.
  3. Wash: Now, wash your stained woodwork comprehensively with your cleaning solution. You need to use a sponge(abrasive) to apply the solution & work it into your wood, then dip your another abrasive sponge in the 2nd bucket, wring it out and then use it to rinse the applied solution off your wood. Always work on a small area at a time, replace the water in your buckets when you see that the water looks cloudy.
  4. Dry: Next, you need to allow your surface to dry. Sand the surface with 180-grit sandpaper to scuff your wood & then prepare it for primer. Vacuum your surface with a brush attachment in order to remove the sanding dust.
  5. Paint Deglosser: Now you need to apply the paint deglosser or the mineral spirits to the rag if your wood is varnished. Wipe over the varnish to scuff it. Read & follow the instructions on your paint de-glosser to regulate whether to rinse it off or not.
  6. Cover The Surfaces: Cover the door surface which you don't want to paint with the help of painter's tape. Paint your woodwork with the oil-based primer to seal your wooden door surfaces and avert the stain from bleeding through. Now you need to apply the 2nd coat as the manufacturer instructs.
  7. Wait: This is your final step, you need to wait for the primer to dry. Paint your door & windows & then allow the applied paint to dry. Now carefully peel off the applied painter's tape. Reinstall the hardware that you removed before the painting process.
