Easy Methods To Remove Bumps From Fresh & Hardened Polyurethane Finish

The Painters, as well as the furniture finishers, less often apply polyurethane using a roller because it will form bubbles. The bubble can even be formed when the user use's a high-quality paintbrush. If in case the user doesn't catch them while they are fresh, then they can become part of the finish. This is not difficult to avoid making them in the first place. It just takes a gentle touch and when stirring the polyurethane stir properly and dipping the brush in it.

Method 1: Remove Bumps From Fresh Finish

Most of the furniture finishers say that the user shouldn't shake the can before applying polyurethane as well as shouldn't wipe the brush on the sides of the can. Both the activities can introduce bubbles into the polyurethane mixture in the can, and it's likely that the user will transfer some of these bubbles to the surface that the user is finishing. Whether or not there are bubbles in the can, its difficult to keep the bubbles in the finish inevitable. The friction that is created from the brush against the surface will create bubbles. As soon as the user notice them follow the 2 easy steps mentioned below in order to get rid of them:
  • Dab the bumps lightly with the help of tip of the brush.
  • Run the brush strokes very lightly along all the surface to flatten out the bumps into the finish.

Method 2: Remove Bubbles From Hardened Finish

If the user missed the bumps while the varnish was fresh, and later will find the finish mottled with the tiny craters or hardened bubbles. This usually happens in the case of floor finishers who drag the applicator firmly. The only remedy, in this case, is to sand out the affected spots and then apply another coat of finish but more carefully this time.
  • Sanding: The first step is to start sanding the bubbles with the help of 120-grit or finer sandpaper, it totally depends on what user is finishing. The user can use coarser paper to sand a floor than the tabletop. If in case the bubbling is extensive, that time sand with the help of palm sander or in case finishing a floor, use a floor buffer and a sanding screen.
  • Wipe: After the sanding is done then wipe away the sanding dust with a damp cloth.
  • Finish: At last apply a fresh coat of finish, but this time move the applicator slowly to avoid more bubbles.
