Easy Steps & Items Needed To Paint The Bamboo

The Bamboo is a very hard material that is mainly used to craft the furnishing items for the indoor as well as for the outdoor areas. The bamboo usually comes in different textures and colors and usually, the bamboo is having the yellow color. The users can easily paint the bamboo at home by first gathering the materials that are mentioned below and then following the below procedure:

Materials Required

  • Soap And Water, Wax Paste & Non-Abrasive Cloth
  • Handheld Propane Torch, Sandpaper & Drill
  • Newspapers, Sealant & Gloves
  • Stain & Varnish
  • Paint & Sponge Or Rags

Step I- Preparing The Bamboo Surface

  • Clean The Bamboo Surface: Start by washing the surface of the bamboo by using the non-abrasive cloth, water, and the soap before applying the paint. Once the bamboo is cleaned properly the users need to allow it to get dried off completely.
  • Use The Sandpaper: Once the bamboo is dried then the users need to use the fine-grit sandpaper so as to gently sand down the bamboo surface in order to remove the wax layer of the bamboo. Without removing this wax layer the bamboo won't accept the stain and the users are advised to pay specific attention to the harsh bamboo areas. If the bamboo is already weathered and has turned into the gray color then the users are advised to directly stain the bamboo without sanding process as it has already lost its wax layer.
  • Using The Newspaper And Wearing Gloves: Then they need to protect their floor where they are going to stain the bamboo by laying down the multiple layers of the newspaper and they also need to protect their hands by wearing the rubber gloves.
  • Apply The Paint: Then the users need to rub the sponge in the round motion so as to paint the bamboo and they are advised to pay special focus to the node areas. If in case the bamboo is still not taking up the stain then the users need to clean off the unneeded paint by using the rag and then let the bamboo to get dried off completely. Then re-sand the bamboo before applying the paint. Then let the paint get dried off completely and they need to add many paint coats till they won't get their desirable color.
  • Apply The Sealant: Once the paint is completely dried over the bamboo surface the users then need to apply the sealant coat so as to bring the bamboo shine back and also prevent it from becoming brittle or even from getting drying out.

Step II- Heat Treating The Bamboo

  • Drill The Holes: Start by heating the bamboo with the heat so as to give the bamboo a dark look like of the fresh coffee. Then they need to drill the small holes at many spots downwards the bamboo length.
  • Use The Handheld Torch: Then they need to toast the bamboo by using the handheld torch and to do so they need to lightly move the handheld torching the back and the forth motion downwards the bamboo length till the users won't achieve their desired color.
  • Apply The Wax Paste: Then finally they need to apply the wax paste to the bamboo so as to preserve it and add the shine to it accordingly.
