Three Easy Ways To Clean The Couch Pillows

If you have a couch at your home and you want to clean or wash its pillow covers, you can do so very easily. There are two types of covers, removable and non-removable covers, steps to clean both types of pillow covers are mentioned below:

Way 1: Removable Pillow Covers

1. Remove Cover: This is best suited for couch pillow covers which are machine washable only. Most of the covers that are made out of linen, cotton, or polyester will be machine washable. So check the tag to make sure. If in case the cover is made from wool, velvet, upholstery or silk then it cannot be washed. That time take them to dry-cleaner.
2. Stain Removal Spray: If the user do not have stain removal spray, then mix 2 parts of water, 1 part hydrogen peroxide, with 1 part of washing soda into a plastic spray bottle, and shake it well. Spray the mixture on the affected area before continuing.
3. Flip The Pillow Cover: The next step is to turn the cover inside out. This will help to protect the texture of the fabric. Besides that, this will also help to prevent the colors from fading while washing.
4. Wash The Cover: On a delicate cycle wash the pillow cover using the cold water with a mild detergent. If in case the pillow itself is very dirty, then wash it on a separate cycle.
5. Remove The Cover: As soon as the cycle has ended remove the cover. If the pillow covers will longer sit in the washer, the mustier it will smell.
6. Dry The Covers: The safest and the best way to dry the covers is to hang them on a clothesline. If the user is in a hurry, toss them into the dryer but on a low or no heat setting.

Way 2: Non Removable Covers

1. Determine The Material: The first thing is to determine the cover material from which it is made. It should be remembered that not all the materials can be spot-cleaned. The following materials must be dry-cleaned such as the wool, velvet, silk, and upholstery as well.
2. Spot Test: If the stain is on a visible area, do a spot test in an hidden area first. The user can do this by simply soaking a cotton ball with the water and then lightly dab it on the pillow. If in case the color bleeds, then take the pillow to a dry-cleaner. If it does not bleed, then it can be easily spot cleaned.
3. Spot-clean Stains: Take some warm water into a bowl and mix a few drops of mild dish soap. Stir the water until it becomes sudsy, after that dip a cloth into the soapy water then blot up any stains with the cloth. In order to blot up any of the soap residues take another clean cloth dampened with fresh water to remove the soap residue. Let cleaned area to air dry before putting the pillow cover back on.
4. Covers Made From Suede: It is advisable to not use the water on the covers that are made from the suede. Instead, brush the entire cover with the help of a soft-bristled brush. Always brush with the grain. A suede brush will be the best choice, but the user can also use the clean toothbrush or manicure brush. If in case the stain remains, then try the white vinegar on stains. Simply dampen the brush with the vinegar, then apply over the stain.

Way 3: Wash Feather Pillows

1. Remove The Pillow Insert: If the user cannot remove the pillow insert, then make sure that the cover is washable. If in case it is not washable, then the user will need to do a spot cleaning on the cover.
2. No Tears In The Pillow: The user does not want to put a damaged pillow into a washer and open the door of the washer at the end to find a pile of feathers. Before putting the pillow into the washer, check it carefully. Focus on the body as well as on the seams of the pillow. If there is any rips or tears, then stitch them up with a needle and thread.
3. Place Two Pillows: In the washer place 2 pillows vertically and do not include any of the laundries. The reason for placing the pillows vertically is to make sure that this won't wrap around the agitator at the time of spinning and get tangled.
4. Washing: For the washing use the cool to warm water with a mild soap at a gentle cycle. When choosing soap it is important to make sure that it is liquid soap having low sudsing, the powdered detergent will be very difficult to wash out.
5. Another Rinse Cycle: Because the pillows are bulky, so a single rinse cycle will not be enough. So making an additional rinse cycle will help to get all of the suds out.
6. Remove The Pillows: Once the cycle ends remove the pillows. Squeeze out the excess water by keeping the pillow between 2 towels and then rolling it up. At last, dry the pillow in the dryer but at no-heat or low-heat setting.
