Steps To Upholster Wood Dining Chairs

If you have an old wooden chairs and you want to turn them into the upholstered chairs then you just need to follow the given steps. Follow the given steps carefully, without skipping any step, in order to achieve better result:
  • First of all, make a cardboard template for the back of your chair. Place this template (cardboard) on 1/8 inch hardboard & then you need to use a jigsaw to cut into shape. For curved chair back, you need to use thinner hardboard to curve with the chair, if you have a straigh back chair then you need to thicker hardwood for the chair back.
  • Now cut the foam by simply placing your hardboard back & chair seat on the foam and trace. Cut this foam shapes by using a knife(electric) or scissors.
  • Next attach this hardboard to the back of your chair by using the accordingly sized screws for thickness of the wood & chair.
  • Now, use a spray adhesive before attaching the foam to your hardboard on your chair back.
  • Then you need to layout the marks for tufting but if you have a flack chair then you can omit the tufting, begin your tufting process.
  • This is an important step, simply staple front upholstery to the chair back. Now you need to carefully adjust the tufting on the front upholstery before securing the back of your chair.
  • Next, place the back fabricon at the top of your chair & then place a cardboard strip(thin) on the fabric and then staple your cardboard & fabric in place. This cardboard will create a clean edge when flipping it over.
  • Once done, now place the batting but make sure to place it at the back and then pull down fabric & begin to secure the back fabric in flex grip.
  • Now, trim off extra fabric, if any, and then tuck into the flex-grip.
  • Smoothly close the flex-grip with the help of a hammer.
  • Now, finish the bottom edge by folding your fabric under itself to make a clean edge around your chair back.
  • Finally you need to use a button cover kit, simply make buttons & glue over the washer by using the E6000 and then upholster the seat cushions.
