Two Easy Ways To Repair/Fix Punch Holes In Hollow Doors
The users can easily repair or fix punch holes in hollow doors by following the below mentioned ways:
Repairing A Small Crack Or A Small Hole
- Trim The Broken Wood: The users need to start by cutting down all the loose wooden fragments around the edges of the cracked area on the door by using the utility knife. By using the utility knife the users are advised to create the cracked hole even bigger so that in future it can be repaired easily.
- Fill Up The Hole: Then the users need to fill up the cracked area with a pack of the paper towels. The pack of paper towels helps in holding the building material in one place. The users can also use the tissue papers instead of the paper towels and stuff them at the bottom side accordingly.
- Apply The Expanding Foam: The expanding foam usually comes in the form of a spray can that contains a nozzle at the top. Then locate the nozzle towards the cracked area on the door and start spraying rapidly. In the case of the smaller holes, the users are advised to use the low-expansion foam. Allow the foam to get dried completely for one complete night.
- Trim The Unneeded Foam: Once the expanding foam is completely dried the users then need to cut all the unneeded foam by using the utility knife. Place the knife gently above the foamed area and then rub the knife towards the downwards area to cut all the excess foam and keep on cutting the foam until a smooth surface is created.
- Use The Auto-filler: Make a paste of the filler and the hardening agent and then apply the mixed paste over the cracked area on the door by using the edge of the putty knife. Continue applying the mixture until the users won't find any further gaps on the door. If in case the users are not having the filler compound then they can use the Spackle material and apply it over the cracked area. Then let the filler material to get dried for almost 1 hour.
- Sand Down The Surface: Once the filler material is completely dried the users then need to use fine-grit sandpaper and rub it vigorously over the entire cracked area on the door. The sanding process will help in creating a smooth finish accordingly.
Repair The Scratched Door
- Use The Sandpaper: Start by using the fine-grit sandpaper and rub it over the cracked area to trim all the loose wood fragments and the paint as well.
- Use The Wood Filler: Squeeze a drop of the filler material over the scratched area and spread it by using the putty knife or the fingers. Try to press the filler material into each corner of the scratched area. Allow the filler material to get completely dried for almost 20 minutes and when the filler material is dried then again use the sandpaper and Sand down the filled area in order to clean up all the unneeded filler material and to create an even smooth finish as well.
- Clean Up The Area: After the sanding process is finished use a soft microfiber cloth and clean up all the dust and the debris particles from the surface of the door.
