How To Protect Acacia Wood Outdoor Furniture: Steps To Protect & Care

Steps To Protect & Care For Acacia Wood

Acacia wood is the best alternative to the costly teak solid wood because of the reason that this wood will not bend or shrink easily and has a good texture. It has good durability and strength properties which makes it the ultimate choice for decorative and furniture woodwork. The acacia wood is good for the construction of indoor furniture such as beds, dining tables, computer tables, sofas or chairs for living rooms because of its high water resistance and solid characteristic. Some of the refined woods like cedar and teak have enough amounts of oil in the wood which protects the wood from the harsh outdoor elements. The acacia wood has less amount of protective oil and this is the main reason why acacia wood needs to be stained or repainted once a year. You can lightly sand the untreated acacia wood with fine-grain sandpaper.

Steps

  1. Step 1: Hose down the acacia wood outdoor furniture, that is placed near a hot tub and pool, once weekly. The chlorine comes from treated pool water will damage the weather-resistant over a short period of time.
  2. Step 2: Clean your acacia furniture at least 2 times in a year. Simply, use soap solution (1 tbsp. of liquid dish-washing detergent mixed in 1 quart of water is perfect) and a scrub brush. Rinse for at least 2 times and make it dry with the help of a towel.
  3. Step 3: Wipe the acacia furniture dry after rain, and clean any liquid which spilled after rain.
  4. Step 4: You can also use a waterproof cover on your acacia furniture if possible when it is not in use. Acacia wood is sensitive to moisture and humidity in the air. When your furniture is moist, the wood cells of acacia will expand and can cause the furniture to swell and buckle.
