Techniques To Paint On Varnished Wood Trim

There are a number of techniques that can be used to paint over the varnished wood and some of the techniques are mentioned below:

Sanding

  1. Clean: The first step, in the process is to clean the area with any general purpose cleaner, then remove all the residue of the cleaner with water and sponge. After that allow the wood trim to dry completely.
  2. Sand: The next step is to sand the wood trim with the 180 grit sandpaper or sponge. Sand until the surface is no more glossy. Once the sanding is completed then go for cleaning and then sanding dust with the vacuum, after that finish the cleaning process with a water-moistened rag. Allow the area to dry completely.
  3. Primer: The next step is to apply the stain blocking primer, the user can use both Water based or oil based primers. Apply the primer with the 2-inch brush in a smooth even coat. Allow the primer to dry completely before heading to another step.
  4. Paint: Now it is the time for the paint, use either the water-based or oil-based paint, apply the paint in the even manner.

Deglosser

  1. Cover The Floor: Before using the Deglosser it is very important to cover the floor under the trim, put on the safety gears like goggles as well as chemical-resistant gloves.
  2. Lint-Free Cloth: The next step is to dip or soak the lint-free cloth in the deglosser, then clean the trim with the help of the deglosser and rub in the circular motion, the cleaning will remove all dirt and any white haze.
  3. Dry: After that apply the deglosser with the help of the 2 inch paint brush, allow the deglosser to dry completely before applying the paint.
