This project is great for anyone who wants to update their kitchen cabinet doors & frames quickly & easily. Here are the 3 easy parts and steps to paint your kitchen cabinets without sanding. Follow each and every step carefully to get the best result of your precious time and hard work:

Items Needed

  • Drill Or Screwdriver & Degreaser
  • Scrubbing Sponge & Water
  • Clean Cloths & Deglosser
  • Rollers & Fine Bristle Paintbrush
  • Medium Bristle Paintbrush & Primer
  • Cabinet Enamel & Hardware
  • Hinges

Part 1: Removing The Cabinet Doors And Drawers

  • The first step is to pull the drawers out from your kitchen cabinets. Clear out all the drawers first and then stack them in an easily approachable area. Now you need to lift them up slenderly to remove them from the tracks inside of your kitchen cabinets drawer unit. Remember that not to pull the whole track away from the unit by actuation too hard.
  • Now you need to use a drill machine to remove the hardware & hinges from the doors and drawers of your kitchen cabinets. Now, you have to unscrew all the doors from the hinges and organize them by size & location. Flip all the doors on their back to unscrew your hardware, and then you need to set all the handles, pulls and screws aside.
  • Remove all your items from the kitchen cabinets and then pull out the shelves. Place these items from the kitchen cabinets in boxes labeled with their actual location, and then keep them aside. Then, take your shelves out of the kitchen cabinets so that you can paint them to match.

Part 2: Cleaning The Cabinets

  • You need to clean your cabinets now, simply apply a degreaser to the frames and doors with help of a scrubbing sponge. Choose the degreasing cleaner of your choice, and exhaustively scrub the shelves, drawers, cabinet doors, and frames to remove any remaining grime or dirt from the kitchen.
  • Once done, now wipe down all the degreaser by using a wet cloth and let them dry for a while. Soak your clean cloth in water but without any soap, and use this cloth to clean off the doors, drawers, frames, & shelves. Try your best to get harder-to-reach places such as undersides and corners of the kitchen cabinets to rinse off all the degreaser and then wait for 1 hour for the water to dry.
  • You need to pour some liquid deglosser onto a clean soft cloth and rub it onto the drawers and doors. Take your doors & drawers extracurricular space or to a well-ventilated area. Wear work gloves on both hands and then add a quarter-sized amount of liquid deglosser to a clean cloth. Rub deglosser on door fronts and backs, and then you need to apply it to the fronts of your drawers.
  • Once done now let your liquid deglosser dry for nearly about 30 minutes. No need to wipe this liquid deglosser off the doors let it dry completely. You can also set a timer for exactly 30 minutes after you finish applying your liquid deglosser to ensure that you have sufficient time to apply the primer on the cabinets.

Part 3: Painting The Doors And Frames

  • After following all the previous steps now it's time to apply the primer to your kitchen cabinets within 1 hour after the liquid deglosser has dried fully. You need to use a medium bristle brush to paint a layer of your primer on the fronts of doors and drawers of cabinets where you recently applied the liquid deglosser. Once drawers and doors are primed fully, now apply a coat to the frames of your cabinets while the primer dries.
  • You need to wait for at least 30 minutes and then turn the doors of cabinets over to prime the backside of it. When the front of the doors is nearly dry then use a medium bristle brush to apply a light of your primer to the back of your cabinet drawers then you have to wait for two hours because the primer needs enough time to dry completely on both sides.
  • Now apply a coat of cabinet enamel to the backs of the doors & drawers. You can use a paint roller to make this process easy because the back surfaces of your kitchen cabinets tend to be flat with few crevices. Paint lightly with a fine brush to avoid bubbles and then let this paint dry for at least four complete hours before flipping the cabinets over to paint the fronts.
  • If your front cabinet has molding then you need to use a fine bristle brush to paint. Some kitchen cabinets have designed and molding on the front faces of doors that are hard to paint with the help of a roller. Remember to use the bristles of your brush to reach into small interstice and coat finer details with a thin layer of paint.
  • Roll paint on fronts of your drawers, doors, and the shelves. Once your molding is painted successfully then apply an even coat on the flat surfaces including backs and front of your shelves. Then, again paint with the help of a fine bristle brush to remove any air bubbles and deep-chested areas of paint.
  • Paint all your frames and shelves while your drawers & doors dry. Use a paint roller to coat all the frames with the first layer of cabinet enamel. When you finish each section, then go back over the paint with the help of a brush (fine-bristle) to remove any air bubbles and distributed out thicker areas.
  • Now, add a 2nd coat of paint to your cabinets once they dry entirely. To get a brighter color and more coverage then you have to wait at least four hours for the paint to dry fully, and then you have to apply the 2nd coat to all of the frames and doors. Make sure to use the brush technique and same roller to guarantee an even coat.
  • Wait at least 24 hours for the paint to dry entirely and reattach any hardware and then let the paint dry fully and set for at least 24 hours earlier you put any hardware back on the doors & drawers. Always remember that If you put the hardware on too early then it can easily scratch or dent the paint.
  • Finally, rehang all the doors and replace the drawers to finish your room. Collecting the hinges and position the doors & drawers where they need to be hung correctly. Screw all the hinges back onto the doors and into the frames, and test the doors & drawers to be sure they open & close smoothly.
