How To Make Hand Sanitizer: 2 Easy Methods & Ingredients Needed

A liquid or a gel that is used to decrease the infectious on your hands is famously known as a hand sanitizer. Alcohol-based type sanitizer is more used by people all over the world because it is more effective in killing the micro-organism which you can't see with your naked eyes. Other popular names of hand sanitizer are hand antiseptic, hand disinfectant, hand rub. Alcohol-based sanitizer is a combination of isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, N-propanol. The sanitizer which does not contain alcohol is based on benzalkonium chloride and triclosan. If you want to make your own hand sanitizer, you just need to use one among the two mentioned methods but make sure to collect the ingredients first before starting the process:

Method 1: Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizer

Collect the following ingredients first:
  • 2/3 Cup 99% Rubbing Alcohol (Isopropyl Alcohol) Or 190-Proof Grain Alcohol
  • 1/3 Cup Pure Aloe Vera Gel (Preferably Without Additives)
  • 8 To 10 Drops Essential Oil Such As Lavender, Clove, Cinnamon Or Peppermint
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Funnel
  • Plastic Container

After collecting all the ingredients, follow the steps mentioned below:
  1. First of all, you need to know that the sanitizer emulates commercially, without the bad smell and without the chemicals. The sanitizer should not replace hand washing but you really need it to use.
  2. Now you need to mix the alcohol and aloe-vera in a utensil or in a bowl, mix other ingredients into the same bowl. You can use a spoon to mix it fully. The mixture you made should be smooth in look. If you want the solution thicker, you can also add one spoon of aloe-vera or if you want to make it thin then add another spoon of alcohol.
  3. Now you have to add some essential oil but be careful that add only one drop at a time and mix it with the help of your spoon, after adding 8 drops to your mixture smell it, it should smell like the scent. You can add more drops if you like a stronger smell. It depends on your choice, you can add lavender clove, peppermint, lemon, & grapefruit.
  4. Now keep the mixture into the container and then cover the container. The small squirt bottle is a good & cheap option if you want to carry the mixture with you for the whole day. Always save the leftover sanitizer in an airtight jar.

Method 2: Witch Hazel-Based Hand Cleaning Solution

Collect the following ingredients first:
  • 1 Cup Pure Aloe Vera Gel (Preferably Without Additives)
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons Witch Hazel
  • 30 Drops Tea Tree Oil
  • 5 Drops Essential Oil, Such As Lavender Or Peppermint
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Funnel
  • Plastic Container

After collecting the ingredients follow the steps below:
  1. First of all, you need to know that the people in the world have a different kind of views, some people don't like to use alcohol-based sanitizer because it is having a strong smell and also causes severe drying on the skin.
  2. You have to mix aloe-vera gel, tea-tree oil, and witch hazel together and then stir it with the help of a spoon. If you see that the mixture is thin then you have to add some more aloe-vera to make it thick enough, if the mixture is too thick then you have to add witch hazel to make it thin.
  3. Now add some essential oil in the mixture, you will see that the smell of tea-tree oil present in the mixture is already strong. Go easy and add essential oil but be careful 5-6 drops are enough and stir only one drop at a time.
  4. Now keep your created mixture into the tight container and then you have to cover the container. A small squirt bottle is a good option if you want to keep the mixture with you for the whole day. Always save the leftover sanitizer in an airtight jar.
