How To Make Bed Slats Stronger: 7 Easy Steps

7 Easy Steps For Making The Slats Stronger

The bed slats are actually a base made for the beds. Actually they are a series of bars that are connected and they lie across the width of the bed frame. The bed slats are usually made from wood like pine or beech. The main use of the slats is to provide full support to the mattress so that it will not sag. There are 2 types of slats sprung or solid. If the user wants to make the slats stronger then they can follow the below-mentioned steps:
  1. Hand Saw: The first step of this process is to take the hand saw and cut the four slats that should be equal in length to the inside measurement of the mattress frame.
  2. Check For Fit: Now in this step the user needs to check for the fit, simply by placing the 4 boards in the mattress frame but there should be 18-inch intervals.
  3. Measurement: In this step the user needs to make a measurement of the vertical distance from the bottom of each slat to the surface of the floor, after making the measurement record every dimensions.
  4. Cut The Board: After the measurement is done then the user needs to cut the 2 inch by 2-inch board in the 4 pieces, the pieces should be equal in length exact to the measurement already taken in above-mentioned step.
  5. Locate The Mid Point: The user needs to locate the midpoint in the width and in the length of each slat that was cut in the first step. After locating the midpoint of each slat then make a hole in the center with the help of the drill having a 3/16-inch bit.
  6. Vertically Center Point: The 2 inch by 2-inch piece that was cut in the step 4 mark a vertically center point, beneath the hole that was drilled in each slat, after that secure it to the slat with the help of 2-inch wood screw.
  7. Insert The Slats: Now the user needs to insert the slats with the legs of 2-inch by 2-inch at the 18-inch intervals in the frame of the mattress. This way the user will have the four-bed slats having a center post that is a leg, supporting each slat at its center point strongly.
