How To Make A Papasan Chair Cushion: 5 Easy Steps

5 Easy Steps To Make A Papasan Chair Cushions

If you want to make your own Papasan chair cushion then you have to follow all the given steps to finish this task easily. Here are the steps for this process:
  1. First of all, you need to layout the materials that you have to make the Papasan chair cushion. The measurement of your standard Papasan chair cushion is 46" inches in diameter. So you need to purchase the fabric, preferably upholstery quality fabric, according to the measurements. You have to select fabric 50 to 60 inches wide and you will need 3 yards of it.
  2. Now you need to make a paper pattern for the Papasan chair cushion by taping the newspaper or the tissue paper together. Simply draw a perfect circle pattern that is near about 50 inches in diameter. You're going to have the circle with at least 2 inches edging all the way around. Place this circle pattern on your material that is folded in half. Now simply pin your pattern in actual place or you can use weighted objects to hold your pattern in place while cutting around your pattern edges to cut out the 2 circles at one time.
  3. Next you need to place your fabric so that the right sides of your fabric pattern are now touching or facing each other and the edges of both circle pieces are even all the way around your circle. Sew all the 2 pieces together with a 2-inch edge seam, also leave an opening near about 24 inches. It is the best idea to sew this on your sewing machine and also stitch your seam at least twice to get a secure seam.
  4. You now need to decide what type of stuffing will be in the Papasan chair cushion. These are the most often thick pillows in the shape of a wedge. You can also use your old pillows and simply cut and stitch them into the wedges or cut pieces of upholstery foam into the wedge pieces. The wedge pieces will be around 22 inches from the outer edge to your wedge point. Make or construct enough wedges to easily fit all the way around the circle area of your fabric you have just sewn.
  5. Finally, turn your sewn fabric circle of the right side outward & smooth it out. Push your inside cushion wedge stuffing smoothly into your fabric circle. Now hand stitches the rest of your fabric opening to secure all the edges of your fabric circle.
