Easy Process Of Killing Moss On Indoor-Outdoor Carpeting

First of all, you must know what mosses actually are? These are rootless plants having spores that usually flourish in wet, shaded environments. Mosses can easily grow on an indoor-outdoor carpet if you left it unchecked. Although there are huge range of products available to control mosses outdoors, but when it comes to working with indoor-outdoor carpeting, you need to prevent exposing yourself or your family to harsh chemicals, and to prevent damage to the carpet itself.
  1. Vacuum The Carpet: Firstly, vacuum the carpet with the help of a wet vac in order to get rid of any excess water. Empty the canister of the wet vac at regular intervals and work as long as little to no water is coming out of the carpet. At this point in time, there is no need to fill the wet vac with clean water as you are simply using the suction feature to get rid of excess water from the carpet.
  2. White Vinegar: Take a spray bottle & fill it with undiluted white vinegar. Spray the carpet, both indoors as well as outdoors, but make sure to work in small sections so that you cover the carpet thoroughly. Allow the vinegar to sit for nearly 10 minutes without walking on the carpet.
  3. Scrub The Carpet: Scrub the entire carpet inside and out, with the help of a stiff scrub brush. Move in circular as well as back-and-forth motions in order to remove the moss from the carpet.
  4. Sweep The Dead Moss: Clean the dead moss by brushing it away into a pile before collecting it in a heavy-duty trash bag. Dispose of this in accordance with your local trash collection company's instructions. For instance, in some areas, landscaping debris is gathered independently from household trash.
  5. Fill Wet Vac With Clean Water: Now, pour clean water in the wet vac & start vacuuming the carpet in order to flush out the vinegar and extract the remaining moss, vinegar as well as dirty water. Keep rinsing as long as the water runs clean. Empty the canister at regular intervals and again fill the wet vac with clean water, as necessary.
  6. Reapply The Vinegar: Again apply the vinegar to those areas of moss that were not killed or removed the first time. Wait 10 minutes before scrubbing the carpet, & then rinse it using the wet vac.
  7. Move The Carpet To A Sunny Area: Take the carpet to a sunny area in order to make sure that it can dry completely, if possible. If there is no sun, then hang it from a clothesline to dry. When it comes to a very large carpet that can not be moved to a sunny area, then you need to point a box fan toward the carpet in order to speed drying.
  8. Prevent The Regrowth Of Moss: In order to prevent the regrowth of the moss on carpet, you need to keep the carpet as dry as possible. Check for new moss growth regularly. Spray any new areas of moss, with undiluted vinegar.
