4 Easy Steps For Installation Of A Metal Carpet Threshold

A metal carpet threshold is regarded as one of the best types of threshold that is very helpful in connecting the carpet to other floor surfaces, protects carpet edges in order to make sure that they don't wear out and offers a smooth flooring transition betwixt doorways. If you want to install a metal threshold, then you need to select one that matches attractively with the colors as well as the hardware in your living space. You will get metal carpet thresholds with precut holes, however, you will need to cut or trim the length of the threshold in order to adjust your space. Metal thresholds generates a smooth seam that adds a finishing touch to the flooring as well. In order to install a metal carpet threshold, go through the below-mentioned steps carefully:
  1. Measurement: The first and the foremost step is to take the measurement of the intermediate area in the doorway, at the uppermost part of the landing or betwixt your carpet and adjacent flooring. Now, trim the length of the metal carpet threshold with the help of tin snips or a hack saw in order to fit the intermediate space. Position the trimmed threshold in the intermediate area, nearly 1/2 inch from the edge of the carpet. Trim excess metal as long as the threshold fits perfectly in place.
  2. Construction Adhesive: Now, secure the threshold in place by moving 1 1/2-inch ring-shank drywall nails across the precut holes into the wood subfloor. It is highly recommended to attach a metal threshold to a concrete floor using a large-scale construction adhesive, giving it at least one day for the glue to dry.
  3. Knee Kicker: Next, position a carpeting knee kicker near about 2 inches from the edge of the carpet, almost at the end of the threshold. Strike your knee against the kicker smoothly in order to straighten the carpet toward the metal threshold. Hold down the edge of the carpet into the metal teeth on the undersurface of the threshold, with the help of a putty knife.
  4. Secure The Carpet Edge: Smoothly move the knee kicker over several inches and keep performing the process of straightening and securing the edge of the carpet underneath the threshold. Force loose carpet edges below the threshold and underneath the connecting baseboards with the help of a putty knife. Strike or knock the edge of the metal threshold with the help of a rubber mallet in order to secure it to the carpet and squeeze the concealed edge of the carpet.
