Step 1: Select Your Marble Threshold

First of all, you will need to select a marble thresholds as per your choice. You will get a variety of color and size ranges but you select the one that will suit you best. Before selecting a marble threshold, it is always better to calculate the length as well as the width of the threshold that you are going to install. If in case you will not get one according to the needed size, then at that time purchase one that is large enough for you to cut it later to fit.

Step 2: Prepare Your Carpet For A Marble Threshold Installation

Now, take the measurement of the threshold that you are installing. If you have got a marble threshold that fits the space you will be installing it in, then calculate its length and width as well. If in case you need to cut your new threshold in order to get it adjusted, then you need to measure it after you have cut it. After that, use a piece of chalk and a straight edge in order to mark the measurements of your threshold on the carpet you will be preparing. You need to have two parallel lines on your carpet, one moved apart from the other by the same distance as the width of your new marble threshold. With the help of a carpet knife, trim or cut entirely through the carpet across each of these two lines. If you have carpet pad underneath the carpet, trim through it at the same lines. After that, get rid of the carpet and padding pieces that you have trimmed out. Apply carpet sealer to these two edges in order to avoid their fraying. Disengage the edge of each remaining carpet and get rid of it.

If installing your threshold on a concrete surface, then first of all, clean all dirt, dust, or debris from the surface with the help of a vacuum cleaner. In case of glue residue built up on the surface, you can use a putty knife or chisel in order to get rid of the residue, then vacuum it up. As soon as the surface is clean, use a notched trowel before applying a very thin & fine coat of granite thinset on the concrete surface. Position the threshold on the thinset, applying down force and moving the threshold in a circular motion in order to seat it on the thinset. After setting the thinset for nearly 24 hours, then allow light traffic on it. If in case you are installing the threshold onto a wood surface, place a backer board first & then apply your adhesive. This, as a result, will supply your marble threshold with a more secure substrate on which to glue it.
