Easy Procedure & Items Required To Fix A Broken Couch Arm
The furnishing items like couches are having the wooden frames but it is upholstered and is wrapped in fabric, foam and the batting. If the couch arm gets a dip then it might be the reason for frame splitting or might have the loose bolts. The user can easily fix the broken couch arm at home by first gathering the below-mentioned materials and then following the below-described procedure:

- Screwdriver, Brads & Diagonal Pliers
- Inch Staples, Staple Puller & Staple Gun
- Socket, Hacksaw, Ratchet & Hammer
- Drill/Driver, Wood Glue & Dowels
- Clamps & Drill Bits
Procedure
- Insert The Screwdriver: Start with inserting the screwdriver at the filet back on the arm front. The filet is usually a thin plywood piece that is wrapped with the fabric and then stapled down and it supports the arm contour. The users need to pry down the filet and then detach it and they need to detach the nail by using the diagonal pliers.
- Detach The Staples: Then they need to detach the staples that are affixing the fabric at the arm front by using the staple puller as the arm front is the site where the assembled fabric ends come together.
- Take Off The Materials: They need to take off the fabric back so as to reveal the foam and then take off the foam back so as to reveal the batting. Then accordingly take off the batting back so as to reveal the arm of the couch. If in case the users fail to detach the materials then they need to check additional staples and then detach it accordingly.
- Secure Bolts And Screws: Secure all the loose bolts that are placed on the couch arm by using the ratchet and the socket. Secure all the loose screws by using the driver or drill. If in case users can't see any problem with the bolts or screws then they need to find out any splits or the cracks by gently applying the pressure over the surface of the arm by using the hand.
- Use The Wood Glue: If the users have found the splits, cracks or any other loose joints then they need to insert the screwdriver tip to it so as to extract them to open. Then they need to apply the wood glue to the cracked area or insert the glue directly to the inside area of the crack by using the fingertip till it is saturated. Then they need to place the clamps all across the couch arm.
- Tap Down The Dowel: If in case the users found the split or the crack then they need to drill through that crack by using the drill and with a 3/8 inch bit as well. If in case the crack is too deep then at that time the users need to drill 2 holes perpendicular to the split or the crack. Then apply the wood glue directly into the holes and then use the hammer so as to tap the wooden dowels directly through the hole so as to get into the drilled holes and then let the wood glue to get dried off completely for almost one hour.
- Affix The Batting And The Foam: Then users need to detach the clamps and trim down the dowels ends so as to get flushed with the hacksaw. Then pull the foam back and batting back to its original place and if it won't stay in its correct position then the users need to staple the corners by using the staple and the staple gun as well.
- Affix The Fabric: Then they need to affix the fabric back to its place on the arm front and then pull all the edges and the corners altogether and then staple down it tightly by using the staple gun.
- Place The Filet Piece: Then place the removed filet piece back to its actual position and to do so they need to use the hammer down the brads within the front side of the filet and then pull the nails entry point by using the fingers respectively.
