Easy Steps To Distress Wood With White Paint

Follow the below steps carefully in order to distress wood with white paint:
  1. Prepare: The first step is to prepare the area which means to remove all the handles or knobs from the piece in case there is and lay a drop cloth under the piece for the drips. Secure all the hardware in a safe place.
  2. Sanding: The next step is to go for sanding, in case of the unfinished wood go for the light sanding and in case of the finished piece go for thorough sanding, if the corners are sharp then sanding will help to soften them, once the sanding is completed then clean the area by wiping the piece down with the rag or tack cloth to remove any dust and dirt.
  3. Paint: Now apply the paint to the entire piece, in case the user wants the wood to look like it has been painted before, then buy 2 colors of the paint so that the base color is shown when top color is distressed, and in case the user wants the bare wood to show up then use only one paint. Allow the paint to dry completely.
  4. Distressing: Once the paint is completely dry then go for distressing with the help of the Sandpaper and Steel Wool. In case the user has painted two coats then use the steel wool to reveal the base coat, focus on the edges and corners then wipe away the sawdust.
  5. Sealant: The last important step is to apply the clear coat of the polyurethane that will not only seal the piece but will protect the color or colors.
