Steps & Items Required To Antique Wood With White Paint

Antique method, also known as the distressing, for wood furniture is the easy and cheapest way to give a different and bold look to wood furniture. If the user wants to give wood furniture an antique look, he can do so by following the given steps. Just follow the given steps carefully to get the best results.

Items Required

  1. Sandpaper.
  2. Paint Sprayer.
  3. White Paint.
  4. Polyurethane.
  5. Rags or tack cloths.

Steps

  1. Prepare: The first step is to prepare the area where the work has to be done by laying down drop cloths on floor.
  2. Sanding The Wood: Small grit sandpaper (60-80) is best to make the surface suitable for giving a antique look to the wood furniture. Rub the sandpaper gently until the surface is smooth.
  3. Cleaning: After sanding the wood furniture clean the dust with rag cloth. Using a vacuum cleaner can also be helpful.
  4. Use White Paint: Now start painting the antiqued wood furniture with white latex paint and for that Use Paint Sprayer. Paint spray can easily cover the corners and edges of the wood furniture. Allow the white paint to dry completely for nearly 15-20 hours.
  5. Antique wood: Before starting the antique process apply second and last coat of white paint then allow the paint dry. Now take sandpaper (small grit 60-80) and start rubbing the edges and corners of wood furniture to give antique look.
  6. Staining The Wood: The user needs to Apply wood stain on the antiqued wood furniture and then wipe all the stain after sometime with a rag cloth.
  7. Apply Polyurethane: At last apply a polyurethane on the antiqued wood furniture and allow the antiqued wood furniture to dry for 14-15 hours.
