Steps To Distress Wood With Vinegar And Steel Wool

To distress wood with vinegar and steel wool below mentioned steps need to be followed:

Step 1: Preparing To Make Your Stain

  1. Gather the material that is required in distressing the wood. The material includes vinegar, steel wool, paintbrush, rubber gloves, and bowl.
  2. Choose the correct wood to be stained and make sure that distressing will not have any adverse effect on the wood.
  3. Then decide the color and intensity of the stain on the wood. The color and intensity of the stain are decided by how long the mixture is kept on the wood.

Step 2: Making Your Stain

  1. Now wear rubber gloves and break the steel wool into pieces and put them into a container.
  2. Prepare a mixture by combining the material. Put vinegar over steel wool in the container and mix it.
  3. Then wait for 15 minutes or the customer can wait for three days so that the stain mixture will have a dramatic effect on the wood.
  4. The prepared stain mixture need to be strained. The stained mixture is strained into a new container.

Step 3: Applying Your Stain

  1. Firstly apply the stained mixture on the small test area to check how it looks on the wood.
  2. Then sand the wood surface before applying the paint so that the wood surface look good.
  3. Now apply the stain evenly on the wood surface with the help of a brush.
  4. At last, apply wax on the wood surface so that the wood surface shines and allow it to dry for about 60 minutes.
