  1. Prepare: The first step is to prepare a surface by placing some drop cloths underneath your painted furniture. It is also necessary to remove hardware & metal knobs from your painted furniture & place them away from working area.
  2. Sanding & Cleaning: Once done, next you need to sand the whole surface of your painted furniture by using medium-grit sandpaper. It is recommended to use a light sanding process on unfinished furniture and a more thorough sanding on polyurethane treated or painted furniture. You can also soften the sharp edges of your furniture. After your sanding process, wipe out the dust & dirt which comes after sanding from your furniture by using a tack cloth or a rag.
  3. Painting Process: Your next step is to paint the furniture which you can do according to your preference. You can select the color according to your painted furniture, you need to apply the layer of oil paint with selected color all over the surface of your painted wooden furniture. Now, you need to use a soft rag & rub it over the oil paint layer in order to provide an aged look to the already painted furniture product.
  4. Top Layer Paint & Wax: This is an optional step, you can rub the candle on various areas of your furniture if you want to show up the base color over the second color. The wax is applied because the 2nd layer of paint won't adhere to the wax and it will be easy to remove it. You need to apply the 2nd color all over the surface of your painted furniture including the areas you've waxed before.
  5. Distressing Process: Next you need to distress your painted furniture by using a sandpaper & steel wool. You can only distress the furniture once the paint on it is completely dry. In order to distress your painted furniture, you need to rub sandpaper & steel wool on some areas of your furniture by which its paint can be removed. After that, remove the dust from your furniture by using a rag or tack cloth.
  6. Staining: To give an antique look to your furniture, you need to apply a coat of stain on a piece of your painted furniture & wipe off any excess paint from it using a rag. You need to apply stain in straight lines rather than circles. After staining, allow your furniture to dry up completely. It will take only a few hours.
  7. Polyurethane & Hardware: This is your last step, you can now apply polyurethane over your painted furniture and give it some time to dry entirely, once it dries fully, now reinstall knob & knots hardware back to your painted furniture.
