How To Cover Shelves Without Doors: Three Easy Ways To Cover Shelves

Three Easy Ways To Cover Shelves Without Doors

The shelving units will help solve the household storage needs, but there’s infrequently anything glamorous about the shelves laden with craft supplies, toys, tools, or pantry goods. No matter how well organized it is, the stored goods intermittently look like the clutter. Simply make your shelving unit blend better with the rest of your interior by covering it without using doors. If you want to do this then go through the given easy ways:

Way 1: Curtains With Hook-And-Loop Tape

The easiest way to cover your shelving unit is by installing the flat-panel curtains on your front with hook-and-loop tape. If the sides are open then you need to install one panel per side as well. Finished side panels will equal the side width & height. You need to use a pair of panels on the front of your shelves unit, each equaling half your unit’s width by its height. In order to make your own then you need to add 2 inches to each measurement and then stitch a 1-inch hem into all 4 sides of each panel. Stitch the soft strips of sew-on hook-and-loop tape along with your curtain tops, called headers. Now you need to attach the coarse half of self-adhesive hook-and-loop tape along with the shelving unit’s top front & on the sides, if convenient. Press your curtain tape to the shelving unit’s tape to hang your curtains.

Way 2: Curtains With A Rod

For the single shelving units which are made of wood or wood-substitutes or a bank of units made from any type of material then consider hiding your contents with rod-mounted curtains with the help of rings. For the single units, you need to install a thin rod along the top of your shelving unit by using barrel brackets. For the multiple units, you need to install a ceiling-mounted pole rod with the end caps rather than finials. In order to calculate the curtain height then you need to measure from the bottom of an installed ring to your floor. Also, calculate the curtain width by multiplying the combined width of all the shelving units by 1.5. You need to divide your result in half for the width of each curtain panel, you will only need 2 panels. Now add 2 inches to each measurement, then you need to cut fabric to those measurements. Hem all the 4 sides of each panel with a 1-inch hem. Stiffen curtain headers with iron-on will interface before hemming so your fabric doesn’t droop betwixt rings. Stitch the rings to your headers & hang your curtains on your rod.

Way 3: Slipcovers

To cover your contents & keep dust at bay, you need to slipcover your shelving unit. The slip covering works well in the utilitarian spaces such as garages, where you are more distressed about function than making things look elegant. Measure your length & width of your shelving unit’s top, front & sides. Also, add 5 inches to each measurement. You need to cut 2 pieces of your painter’s tarp or tent canvas to your side & front measurements, you will need to use 1 of the latter for your slipcover back. You need to cut 1 piece to your top measurements. Sew your all pieces together with a 1/2-inch seam allowance. The result is a fitted slipcover that will be loose enough to slip on & off easily.
