4 Easy Steps To Clean Shellac

The shellac is usually noted for its different color varieties and its harmless qualities. The shellac is one of the renowned finishes that is used to coat the wood. The shellac requires the regular cleaning process to prevent the dirt and debris particles from its surface. The users can easily clean shellac at their home by following the below-mentioned steps:
  1. Clean The Shellac Finish: The users need to start by wiping the dry rag or the dry cloth over the finish of the shellac so as to get rid of the dust and the debris particles. The users are advised to clean up the finish with a tidy section of the soft cloth or the rag as well
  2. Soak The Swab In Mineral Spirit: Then they need to soak the cotton swab directly into the mineral spirits and then rub the soaked cotton swab over the invisible section of the shellac so as to check the solubility of the shellac. If in case the mineral spirit destroys or softens the finish of the shellac then the users are advised not to clean up the rest of the shellac sections.
  3. Clean Up The Unfinished Wood: If in case the finish of the shellac was not harmed by using the mineral spirit then they need to soak the fresh dry cloth into the mineral spirit and then rub it over the entire surface of the shellac. They also need to rub the soaked cloth over the surface of the finished wood in order to get rid of the extra buildup of the soil and then allow the shellac to get dried off completely for one complete night.
  4. Make The Soap Solution: Then the users need to test the finish of the shellac for the stubborn dirt and if any of the soil particles remain over the shellac surface then the users need to use the 1/4 part of the mild soap with the equal amount of the hot water. Then soak the fresh cloth in the soap solution and then rub it vigorously over the entire surface of the shellac in order to clean up the stubborn dirt from the shellac surface accordingly. Then moisten other cloth with the clean water and then rub it vigorously over the entire surface of the shellac in order to clean up the soap residue respectively. Then use another dry cloth to dry off the finish of shellac accordingly.
