Two Easy Parts & Materials Required To Polish Resin

Polishing up the resin material is one of the best and the easiest way to return back its shine and the users can easily polish resin at home by gathering the below-mentioned material and then following the below-described procedure:

Materials Required

  • Microfiber Cloth & Soap
  • Polishing Compound
  • Water
  • Towel
  • Sandpaper

Part I- Clean And Sand The Resin

  • Warm Water & Mild Soap: The users need to start by using the warm water and the mild soap in order to clean up the resin item. They need to soak the soft sponge in the hot soapy water and rub the sponge over the entire surface of the resin item in order to make it clean. The users need to make sure that they have removed the dirt and the grime from the resin item before they start the sanding procedure. If the users are working with a tiny resin item then they need to simply soak the item in hot soapy water so as to clean it accordingly.
  • Sand: Before processing towards the sanding process the users are advised to wear the mask so as to protect themselves from inhaling the dust particles. Then they need to sand the resin item by using the fine-grit sandpaper so as to get rid of all the scratches. The users are advised to spray a few drops of the water over the surface of the resin item or they can soak the resin item into the water so as to make it wet before using the sandpaper. They need to sand the resin item almost 3 times before moving towards the further procedure. The wet sanding procedure will help in providing a smooth finish.
  • Repeat Sanding: The users need to repeat the same procedure by using the 600 grit sandpaper, then move to 800 grit, then move to 1000 and then at last sand the resin item by using the 1500 grit sandpaper.
  • Dry Off: The users then need to dry off their resin item by using the dry towel in order to clean up the dust particles. If the users still find out some scratches then they need to repeat the sanding procedure till the scratches are completely removed.

Part II- Using The Polishing Compound

  • Apply: The users need to use the polishing compound and apply it over the entire surface of the resin item. The users are advised to spread the polishing compound generously so that it will spread uniformly over the resin surface. In order to attain the best results, the users are advised to use the compound that is often tagged as the scratch remover as well. The users can also use the automobile compound for polishing purposes.
  • Microfiber Cloth: Then they need to use the soft microfiber cloth in order to rub the polishing compound over the small section of the resin item. They need to apply the gentle force while moving up the microfiber cloth in the round direction so as to polish up the resin item. The users need to be more attentive towards those scratches that are visible and they need to apply more force to those concerned areas.
  • Polishing Tool: In order to polish the large resin item, the users need to use the polishing tool or the buffing wheel. They need to affix the polishing tool or the buffing wheel to the electric drill and then allow it to move over the entire resin surface.
  • Rub: The users need to keep on polishing the resin item until it won't look smooth and shiny as well. Then rub the resin item with the microfiber cloth till the resin item is having the glossy finish. Once the users attained their desired polishing surface they need to stop continuing the polishing procedure.
