How To Build Storage Shelves: Easy Procedure & Items Required

Easy Procedure & Items Required To Build Storage Shelves

The Storage shelves are the flat leveled plane that is specifically used in the stores, business units, kitchen areas and in any place used to hold the items and are stored or being displayed as well. These storage shelves are usually raised from the ground level and are anchored to the wall by using the brackets and these shelves can also be supported by the pillars or the columns. In other languages, the storage shelves are also known as the rack, mantel or the counter as well. The users can easily build the storage shelves at home by gathering the below-mentioned materials and then following the below-described procedure:

Materials Required

  • 1 * 4' x 8' 1/2" Thick Plywood
  • 80 * 2.5" Exterior Screws
  • 1" Finishing Nails
  • Pen, Clamps, Power drill & Hammer
  • Set Of Drill Bits, Measuring Tape & Level
  • 10 * 8' 2 x 4's Lumber Pieces

Procedure

  • Trimming The Lumber Pieces: The users needs to start by the 10 2 x 4's piece and with the one portion of the 4' x 8' 1/2" thick plywood piece. The plywood will be used to craft the shelves and that is why it requires to get trimmed in the size dimensions of the 21" x 45". The user will require the three sheets of this size dimensions and one sheet of the size dimension 21" x 48" so as to craft the topmost shelf.
  • Calculate The Measurements: The users need to line up all the 4 portions and then mark down the lines at that point where they want to lie their shelves. The measurement is the most necessary step because the users need to be assured that they are placing the shelves in the accurate position otherwise the shelf won't be at the exact level and the users can choose their desired height for the shelves.
  • Build The Ladder: Then they need to align the 18" portion with their line so as to make a square and then pre-drill the two holes by using the electric drill but small than the exact screw diameter and this is an important thing so as to prevent the wood from getting split when the users will insert down the screws. Then the users also need to screw down 2 wood pieces all together and then they need to rinse, wash and repeat the procedure till they won't build the ladder. Then they need to repeat the same procedure for crafting another portion of the ladder that will build up the other portion of the shelf accordingly.
  • Work On Building The Shelves: The primary part that is involved in crafting the storage is to affix the cross-beam with the four portions accurately in the center. The best way to figure out this is to lay both the boards over a flat surface in an aligned manner and then affix it with the screws and they also need to take care of the pre-existing holes.
  • Affixing All The Pieces Together: The users need to affix all the pieces together and to do so they need to lay both the ladders towards their sides and with the 18" sections on the inner sides and then place down the built cross-beams all across the surface of the ladders where the 18" sections attach. The user needs to make sure that all the pieces are forming a square shape and then screw down all the pieces altogether with the two screws for the joints so as to prevent the rotation. The users are now having the unfinished shape of their shelves, now they need to flip this over and then affix the remaining 4 boards on the other side as well. The users are advised to affix the rest of the boards with the beams as well. The users also need to clasp up the sides so as to secure up the last boards.
  • Affixing The Plywood: The users need to use the finishing nails so as to affix the sheets of the plywood over the shelves and in addition the users can also raise their storage shelves upright but they need to be assured that they are on the same level.
  • Finishing Touches: Finally the users need to move their crafted shelves in their exact position and then the users can also add the finishing touches of their desired choices like the wood paint, the polyurethane paint or the simple varnish layer.
