- First you need to Clean off your working area by using a dust cloth, otherwise, dust & dirt may get on the top surface of the paintable wallpaper when you will try to apply decoupage medium. If your working area is especially dirty, then you need to wipe it down with a cleaner(gentle household) and by a soft cloth, allow the surface to dry completely.
- Once dried fully, now take a piece of craft paper over your surface being papered, like the face of a drawer or the back panel inside of a bookcase. Smooth & crease the paintable paper so it shows identifiable lines, indicating where to cut this wallpaper template. The creasing process becomes easy for areas with tricky curves or angles. If you want to work on a simple straight area then use a tape measure instead to measure the whole craft paper to size.
- Now cut out the measured craft or creased craft paper with the help of simple scissors. Position it in their correct place to double-check your hard work and ensure about the exact size which you needed, adjust as necessary.
- Now you need to place your craft paper template over the piece of your paintable wallpaper, lining it up because design shows in that way you may like, such as a chevron pattern which lines up with their peaks in the center of your project area and then traces the template onto the paintable wallpaper front by simply using a pencil, and then you have to cut out the wallpaper shape with your scissor.
- Now take a disposable plate and then pour some decoupage medium on it. Dip your foam roller into the decoupage medium and then roll any excess medium off onto part of your disposable plate. Roll the decoupage medium dipped foam roller over your project surface, for creating a smooth, even coating. You can also easily use a paintbrush instead of a foam roller to reach into corners which the foam roller missed.
- Now, it's time to place the paintable wallpaper over the wet area where you apply the decoupage medium and then simply smooth it down by your both hands from one side to the other side of it, or from one edge to another edge. You can now roll a brayer over it to smooth out any excess decoupage medium and also to remove air bubbles from it. Once finished, wipe any decoupage medium which squirts out with the help of a damp cloth, otherwise, it can easily leave an ugly dry blob behind.
- Now, you finally need to inspect the wallpapered area and then you can trim away any excess paper, like bits left in the corners by using a craft knife. In order to remove the decoupage medium from your craft knife then you need to clean your blade with a damp cloth but be careful while doing this. Allow your project area to dry entirely.
- Finally apply a coat of decoupage medium over the top of your painted wallpaper, if you want to seal it, then use a brush or foam roller. Allow the surface of your project to dry entirely.
