How To Change Top Bunk Bed Sheets: Steps To Convert Bed Sheets

Steps To Convert Bed Sheets For Bunk Beds

The bunk bed is a type of simple bed in which one-bed frame is on top of another, that allows 2 or more beds to occupy the space which otherwise will be occupied by only single person. Bunk beds are normally seen on ships, hostels, the military camps and other important places. 4 poles or pillars are the main supports to the bunk beds, one at each corner of the bunk bed. In order to reach to the upper bed, a simple ladder can be used, usually encircled by a railing. If you have some old bed sheets and you want it to convert your sheets for bunk beds then you need to follow the given steps. Here are the steps for this process:
  • Step 1: First you need a fitted twin sheet that should be placed on bunk bed mattress. With sheet-holder straps secure all the two bottom corners of your sheet. These types of straps are elastic straps, they are quondam known as "sheet suspenders." The elastic straps usually has 4 sets, so you can use the leftover straps for your other bunk bed.
  • Step 2: Once done, now place your pillow in its pillowcase at the top of your bunk bed.
  • Step 3: On each bottom corner of a twin flat sheet, you need to tie an overhanded knot. The bulk of these knots should be about six inches from the corners of your sheet.
  • Step 4: Now you need to spread over the bunk bed flat sheet. Pull all the corners down over the bunk bed corners and tuck the knots of your sheet straps into the elastic. If your sheet is not long enough to do this, then tuck the knots into the elastic on your fitted sheet.
  • Step 5: Pull the top of your sheet up the bunk bed and over your pillow, tucking the side of the sheet that's against the wall into the bunk bed frame. At this point, the front-most side of your sheet should hang over the front of the bunk bed frame.
  • Step 6: Now, tuck the front of your sheet between the mattress side and bunk bed frame, pleating the excess material as needed so it fits into the bunk bed frame without any overhang.

Tips And Warning

  • Tips:
    • Make Sure to avoid "deep pocket" mattress covers as well as bed sheets which are made for mattresses(extra-thick). If the mattress is a standard thickness, deep-pocket sheets will have too much material to fit smoothly on your bunk bed.
    • If the bottom of your sheet tends to slip out of place during the night then you can use straps (sheet-holder) on all four corners of your sheet. When placing the bottom sheet on the top bunk bed, it may be easier to remove your mattress, place the fitted sheet and straps (sheet-holder) on it, and then replace your mattress in the bed frame.
    • Simplify the bedding layers on your bunk beds to decrease the bed-making steps as much as manageable. A bottom and top sheet with a twin-size comforter are usually adequate.
  • Warning: Do not allow your children under 6 years of age to sleep & play or sleep at the top of your bunk bed. Be sure that the bunk bed building follows the Consumer Products (Safety Commission guidelines) which include having guardrails on both sides that are at least five inches above the mattress top.
