How To Adjust Old Cabinet Door Hinges: 2 Easy Methods To Adjust Kitchen Door Hinges

2 Easy Methods To Adjust Old Cabinets Kitchen Door Hinges

The obstinate cabinet hinges, which are always result of abuse may start sticking if its door is continually getting slammed or closed too hard, or when an object gets stuck betwixt the door & the cabinet. If you want to adjust the old cabinet door hinges then you need to take matchbook cover or piece of cardboard & a screwdriver with you. Here are 2 easy methods to finish this task by yourself:

Method 1: Flush Mount Hinges

  1. Push: First of all you need to push the door closed with your fingers. Allow the cabinet door to openly move back. The cabinet door will fail to close at either the bottom or top which means that one of the cabinet door hinges is bent, causing the cabinet door to angle from open to closed at one end. Choose the hinge on the end of your cabinet door that is closed.
  2. Fold: Fold a matchbook cover or a piece of cardboard of similar thickness for four times. Open the cabinet door and then you have to insert the matchbook cover or cardboard betwixt the door & the side of your cabinet just above the hinge. Then you need to close the door.
  3. Open The Door: Open the door of your cabinet & get rid of the matchbook cover or cardboard and then close the door again. If your door of cabinet will still not close properly, fold the matchbook cover again & repeat inserting & closing the door.
  4. Remove: Finally, open the door & remove the matchbook cover. If your door will still not close then add another matchbook and repeat the previous steps 2 and 3 until the door closes tightly. This idea is very good to bend the hinge slenderly to get it the same as the bent hinge.

Method 2: Internal Spring Hinges

  1. Open: Open the cabinet door before pushing it to shut again. If your cabinet door fails to close completely or fails to stay closed easily, then you need to know that spring tension is too light.
  2. Screwdriver: Open the door & hold it open with your one hand. When your cabinet door is in the open position it will show the two screws on each hinge of the door. These are slenderly recessed into the body of the door hinge. Grab a screwdriver to turn all the 2 screws clockwise one-quarter turn at a time in order to add tension to the inner spring. Then make sure to test the door. If it still won't close easily then you need to turn the adjusting screws one-quarter turn at a time until your door closes & stays closed.
  3. Test The Door: Open your door & let go of it, or you can push it slightly. If your door slams shut hard or bounces & then shuts this is just because of too much tension. Turn the adjusting screws one-quarter turn counterclockwise & then again test the door. When the door closes with an average amount of pressure & stays closed without bouncing off the face of your cabinet, the tension is now adjusted properly.
