Part 1: Examining The Door
- First of all, you need to check whether you have an overlay or inset cabinets. Take a closer look at the top of the cabinet doors to check their style. See if doors of cabinet fit exactly into the space engraved out for your cabinet doors, if this is the case, then they’re inset.
- If your cabinet doors cover the cabinet space instead of fitting into it, then they’re overlay.
- Use a screwdriver in order to straighten out any crooked doors. Take a step back & look at the cabinet or cupboard doors to see if they’re straight.
- If one or both of your cabinet doors aren’t aligned then you need to use a screwdriver to fasten the screws & make the doors parallel to one another. If your cabinet doors still aren’t lined up then consider unscrewing & reattaching them.
- Shut the door so that the inner cabinet or cupboard is wholly concealed. Look for silver or gray silver plunger in the center of the hinge. To confirm that it’s the adjustment tab, try pulling on by your finger.
Part 2: Modifying The Hinge
- Set the adjustment hinge to a lighter setting if you are working on smaller cabinet doors. Push the adjustment tab or lever in so that it stays retracted. If you are going to use a lever mechanism then make sure that it facing the sidewall of the cabinet. In case of an adjustment tab then make sure, that the mechanism is pushed in all the way.
- Turn the adjustment lever dextrorotary so that it faces your cabinet ceiling. If the hinge has an adjustment tab alternatively, use your fingers to pull the tab forward a conservative amount. Aim for there to be a 0.39 inch (10 millimeters) gap betwixt the tab & the actual hinge.
- Now, adjust bigger doors to give the strongest hinge setting. Rotate your adjustment lever clockwise by 90 degrees until it’s facing inside of your cabinet. Use your fingers to pull the adjustment tab as far as it can go.
- At this point, check to see that there are only 0.20 inch (5 millimeters) separating the end of your tab of the edge of the clasping mechanism on the hinge.
- Finally open & close your cabinet doors to test them out. Test each cabinet door to be sure that the soft close hinges are at the correct setting. If your cabinet door closes too quickly then try tightening the adjustment mechanism so the hinge carries more weight. Tinker with each of your cabinet door until you are content with the hinge settings.
