Steps To Remove Dried Blood Stains From Upholstery

Blood stains are very easy to remove from upholstery when they are fresh and wet compared to dried blood stains. In order to remove dried blood stains from the upholstery, the user needs to follow the below-given steps:

Check Care Label:
The first step will be to check the label care instructions as there are several materials used to make upholstery some of which can be cleaned with water while others require specific cleaning solutions. The upholstery with 'W', 'S', and 'SW' tags can be cleaned with solvent or water-based cleaners. Upholstery with 'X' tag means that it cannot be cleaned with solvent or water-based cleaners rather it needs professional care.
Spot Test Cleaners:
After that, the user needs to spot test the cleaners over the upholstery at hidden spots. The step ensures the user that the cleaner used over the upholstery will not damage the material by any means. In order to complete the spot test, the user needs to apply the cleaner over the upholstery at a hidden spot and let it sit for 24 hours to see any changes. The recommended cleaners that need to be tested are upholstery cleaner, soapy water solution, hydrogen peroxide, and rubbing alcohol.
Scrape Off Excess Blood:
The next step will be to scrape off excess blood from the upholstery by using a soft-bristled brush. After brushing, the user needs to remove the scrapped residue by wiping the area with a dry cloth.
Blot The Area:
After that, the user needs to blot the area with a white cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol or cold water. It has been recommended by the experts to wring out excess liquid from the cloth before blotting the stained area with it. The step allows the user to saturate the stain with liquid. Upholstery with W and SW tags can be blotted with water while as upholstery with S and SW tags can be blotted with rubbing alcohol.
Dab Blotted Area:
The next step will be to dab the blotted area by using a fresh cloth in order to remove excess liquid along with blood from the stained area. It has been recommended by the experts not to rub the stained area as it will push the stain further inside and make it hard to remove. The user needs to continue the step until the cloth comes out dry.
Select Cleaner:
After that, the user needs to select a suitable cleaner with which blood stains can be removed from the upholstery. There are several homemade cleaners such as preparing a mixture containing water and baking soda in 2:1 ratio, hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol that can be used over upholstery with 'S' tag only, mix a pinch of salt with a fresh lemon juice, hairspray, and by mixing 2 teaspoons of dishwashing liquid with a cup of cold water.
Use Cleaner:
The next step will be to blot the stained area with a selected cleaner. First, the user needs to prepare cleaner in a bowl and soak a clean cloth inside. After that, the user needs to wring out the excess liquid from the cloth and blot the area with it until the stain gets saturated. Rubbing the stain has been strictly prohibited by the experts and as it can push the stain deeper. If the cleaner used is hydrogen peroxide, it will start to foam & bubble which is an indication that the hydrogen peroxide is killing the bacteria inside.
Blot The Area Dry:
After that, the user needs to blot the stained area again by using a dry cloth in order to remove moistened blood and excess cleaner. The user needs to continue the step until the cloth used comes out dry and clean.
Repeat The Steps:
If required, the user can repeat the step from blotting the area with the cleaner to blotting the area dry until the entire dried blood stain from upholstery gets removed.
